Ok here is the deal, 1) I have a 1972 Kindsvater that I bought a couple of years ago, and it's going to go to hell if I don't do something with it soon. When I bought it the guy had just redone the stringers and it looked pretty good a couple of years ago, but after sitting out in the heat and cold uncovered for the last 2 years the stringers are starting to crack up. Apparently the guy that did the stringers can't fiberglass shit! One of the reasons that I bought this boat in the first place is that I thought I might be able to use some of the stuff in my other boat, here I was thinking that after I owned a V-Drive for a year and a half that I was starting to have a clue, WRONG!! crazy.gif For one thing the stringers in my boat are 23" apart and the Kindsvater is 26" apart, so I can't use the motor plate, the top loader Casale {with the same brackets at least) I can't even use the rudder bracket! :smile15: Another reason that I got the Kindsvater is that I would at least be able to use the trailer which brings me to number 2) The Kindsvater fits on the trailer fine because the fins underneath the bottom of the boat are only about 6" long, the fins underneath my boat are almost 9" long! Damn!! I can't even go to the lake with both trailers and try it out because I'm afraid that I will break one of the fins of my boat on the boat ramp. think.gif So, I was considering swapping the fins on my boat (since they are unusually long anyway) with the fins on the Kindsvater. What kind of behavior is this going to do to the ride of my boat? I know that most of you fools are all squirt boaters crazy.gif , but there are a few V-Drive guys around here that I'm sure will have an answer for this. :smile30: Number 3) Also turns out that the fins aren't the same dimensions on both boats even though they do have a slight angle on them the ones on my boat are 7" X 4" and the ones on the Kindsvater are 8 1/4" X 3", and of course the bolt pattern is just slightly off. So if I was to make the switch (providing I wouldn't get tossed out of the boat at a later time because of it) what would be the best way to keep from sinking my boat (for a second time I might add) due to the larger holes that I would have drilled into the bottom of my boat? One more thing, the fins that came with the Kindsvater actually came with the plate for the inside of the boat and the ones that are on there now just have the bolts coming up through the floor. I was thinking if nothing else I could always raise the bunks on the Kindsvater trailer to allow clearance for my fins, but it's a single axle trailer, and if I raised them up very much the bottom of the boat would almost be at the top of the fenders. Regardless if it did work I would still need someone to do some welding for me because there is no bow hook on the trailer right now at all and I also need to weld the jack up so it won't wobble around when I take it off the hitch. Too bad I don't have a welder it would have already been done. 4) Like I said the Kindsvater is going to die a slow, grueling untimely death if I can't find someone to take it off my hands that is willing to do a little fiberglass work. I would attempt it myself, but I don't have anywhere where I can actually work on anything. I've got plenty of all kinds of tools (except for a welder :smile23: ) to do stuff with but there isn't even a slab around here that I can work on. My boat is in a barn right now that has a friggin sand floor about 6 or 8" deep. I guess someone thought that it would be a good Idea to dump a truckload of play sand in the barn for a floor. IDIOTS!! crazy.gif I went to pull the battery out of my boat a couple of days ago and I couldn't event get enough traction to lift it up without putting something down on the floor that I could use as a wedge! Good luck trying to roll around an engine stand in there. :smile26:
I guess I will leave y'all that to ponder for now, I'm open to all opinions and comments (some of us on THB are just stupid that way I guess) :smile24:
