30 ft long, 80 mph $250,000 pontoon boat.

On the way back to Phoenix I took the river road in Parker. I stopped at Pirates Den and took a few pics of the river on Sunday afternoon. The boating season is pretty much over I guess.

A couple of observations from this weekend. I have seen this consistently everywhere I go boating. Very few people know the proper way to tie off to a dock cleat. Yes, there is a proper way and then there are unlimited other ways. Proper way: you wrap the rope around the base of the cleat first, not the ears of the cleat. Also, you don't need to use up all the tie off line by wrapping it around and around the cleat ears.  Next, this was told to me by a longtime local, 20 years ago the water was blue. Now it's green. It's still clear just a different color. Probably has something to do with all the increased farming and population in general. One last thing is the people. They are the friendyist bunch I have ever met. Over and over they ask "do you need a freshie", ie another beer. And everybody drinks Coor Light in the can.

I may post a few more pics before the next weekend in Blythe. If not, you just gonna have to wait!!!! LOL

Shoot I think that water is cold all the time anyway? :smile20:
To us yes, to them it probably is great for awhile! think.gif

The locals say in July and August water temp is in the low 80's. I've been there is late May when it was warm enough to get in and stay in comfortably.

I could drive these. For a hefty fee i imagine. Not this week cause everybody is at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.

The farmers are not using a lot of water so they don't release much. Saturday should be better.

First pic is McIntyre Park launch ramp Friday afternoon.

Second is cotton with stacked hay in the background. There is a lot more waiting to be stored in those buildings.

Water came up enough to launch. We ran. 10 miles upriver to "Jungle Beach. Didn't cross a boat wake the entire way up or down.

Fourth is heading back to The Cove.

Fifth is a local little bar/restaurant we went to for dinner. All populated by locals. Rob saved me cause I was being hit on by a 62 year old local women who is a firefighter. She said she was in Cali fighting those fires for 6 weeks. She looked like she had all her teeth to.

First pic, cotton, is on the road between Blythe and Parker. The road parallels the river and growing hay seems to be the major crop. Got to Havasu Sunday afternoon and drove around for a few hours on the North end of town. That is the industrial section where all the boat manufactures are.

Monday morning I dropped the boat off at Advantage and met Bill Scotten who owns the molds for the California Performance boats. He was in town to show a boat to a client. The CP's are layed up at Advantage then he takes them to Bullhead City, across the river from Laughlin, where he has a shop and they finish the boats there. Bill lives in Las Vegas so I don't know how much actual work he does on the boats anymore. He is bringing a boat to the Show and Shine so I will get more info then. Second pic is a fininshed CP that Bill will take to Bullhead  to finish.

The lady on the motor cycle owns Advantage Boats since here husband died a while back. They took me on a shop tour while I was there and I saw all the different stages of finishing a boat except where they lay up the glass and resin in the molds. It seems that is a top secret process.

The drive from Havasu to Kim's house takes about 3.5 hours with a stop for fuel in Quartzite. You can tell the snowbirds are here for the winter. I never saw so many motor homes, travel trailers and fifth wheels all headed west. Most of the motor homes are pulling a car or truck. Well, that gets us back to Phoenix.

Friday or Saturday I head to Havasu to pic up the CP and then on to Laughlin.

I probably won't do this event again because it's so late in the year. The water is way to cold to swim.

But what an impressive event. Tony Skagen brought a boat all the way from Washington State. Bill Scotten (California Performance) brought an 18' hull to sell. There were about 50 boats and 20 cars/trucks etc. I won a trophy for "longest drive" to the event. It started around 3 PM and ended around 8 PM. A lot of people went to the parking lot to continue the party. I met some people I boated with last year and they wanted me to go to Pirates Cove to launch Sunday. It was very windy Sunday AM and I went back to Phoenix.

I have to give profs to Brad and Brittney who are the driving force behind So Cal Jetboats website and all the events. They have a lot of help but still while we all are partying on saturday they work their vendor stand for hours at a time. For this event they organized a raffle with at least  a dozen different packages with the biggest item, a jet boat complete with trailer ready to run.
