Good to see it is back . I am not sure why it would have ever been unpinned , I didn't unpin anything .All I did was go in and pin the topics that were at the top of the page , it should not have even changed the order the threads were in , just make it look like there were a page full of stickies . I was just messing with ya , not really trying to cause any harm . I will try to behave myself from now on .

I didn't do anything with the local lakes thread . I just pinned some topics  , didn't delete or move anything  . The local lakes thread should still be right where it was in the first place .

Something flaked out with it.  I tried to search it out and re pin it yesterday.  When I clicked the pin it said I could not perform that action.  Then it was gone.  I suspect I accidentally clicked the delete button instead of the pin.  I don't think I did but it is the only explanation I can come up with so I will accept it.  It was only the thread that disappeared.  The maps were never actually deleted from google.  It would be an easy thread to recreate.

Isnt the only reason to pin threads is that the moderators want to keep a thread on the top of a forum page so that everyone has easy access to it?

That is the idea. It is to keep a thread that has valuable info and is not frequently replied to on the first page.  There is  at no reason to pin a thread with frequent replies because the replies keep it at the front.  The issue here at THB is anyone can pin and unpin any threadnot just mods and admins.

A couple of observations...
1-are we going to start counting how many clapping smiley faces one gets tagged with as to how one rates there post?

2- why can't the powers to be write code so when you "pin" it will be "pinned" personal and linked to your sign on. Therefore when you sign on it will ONLY show your personal pinned threads TO YOU ALONE.
