Wiring Kits

I am gauging intrest to see what you guys think! I am thinking about selling wiring kits for boats. The kit would contain marine wire rapped in Heli Coil not black loom in all the colors for the boat requirments! All the connectors(heat seal) for gauges, lights, pumps, etc. You would just install and cut to your length add connector and zip tie to clean the lines!
I have found that to do a good job it cost a good deal of money to purchase the wire and connectors to do just one kit so I buy in bulk then I have more leftover! I always use a size larger wire and add a few extras so if something is added later it's no big issue! Price would be according to length and acc.

JETS and V DRIVES ONLY!

Any interest in this?

All depends on the price.  What about fuses/circuit breakers?  I'd be interested but it seems like each harness would have to be somewhat custom.  Every boat I see has a different gauge layout.

Agreed I like the idea and would be up for an option if I hadn't gotten lucky and the motor I bought came with a wiring harness already.  It's perfect length for the boat just need to find a connector for the dash harness or will just wire it up together with connectors or a junction block.

Here's my $.02.  I've been wiring airplanes for over 20 years.  IMHO, you would be better off talking with your customers and getting a complete equipment list from them and provide a wiring diagram and all wire, connectors, and switches etc.  Kind of a DIY kit.  You might be able to do some of the pre-fabrication but, definitely not all.  Once again, it's just my opinion.  :smile30:

Disturbed has a good point besides its nearly impossible to get accurate measurements for the wire path unless there is an existing wire to remove and measure.  Plus if there needs to be wires to splice off and go to other devices or directions it would be hard to get those just right.

I think it is a great idea. Disturbed is correct, but with the customer supplying gauge layout, a few measurements, and a list of options (fuses, circuit breakers, etc) you could custom build the wiring harness for a plug and play operation.  Painless has been doing this for years for hot rodders and you could visit their website for ideas.  Painless built a wiring harness for a buddy of mines Pro street truck, and it was a thing of beauty.  Go for it big guy, I for one hate chasing wires and will be one of your customers, that is if I can afford you. LOL

You are correct on the kit setup! All the harnesses will be open ended and all the best terminal connecters come with the kit! With extras because we all know how to make mistakes! :smile27: The wire I use cost a good bit and the connecters also but, makes for a sweet setup! And yes all dashes are not layed out the same so the best way to do a kit is openended! I would not supply the switches unless asked to and they would be standard push pull! I could get into a hornets nest to try to supply rocker switches with all that are available! I also add anywhere from 2 to 4 wires extra for the just in case addons! EST. on price 100.00 to 200.00 depending on size, length, amount, ETC.

I have just found that it is a pain in the azz to chase a short down and like a clean looking wiring! I have a boat to wire this week for a friend and his will be way different than most boats! Maybe I can get a few shots and post them up because his rig will be sick when finished!
This is not a bussiness just a way to give some the easy way to wire their boat with less hassels!

if it's a simple setup, with minimal electronics, I like the 7 wire trailer cable...it's cheap, and clean, just make your own ends. (poor boy harness)

That's what I'm using on mine right now. From the dash to the back, all except a larger power/ground running from the battery terminals to the dash. I discovered mine was wired up with mostly all red 14ga wires that were hard, butt connectors all along the way. Now I'll know what color goes where and know that all the wiring is new.
