What up with pinning?

Well, talking with a few of those guys that come on, look around, and never post. They only look in the north section. I'm sure there are tons that only look in the south section that run their boats down there too. Fact is some peeps are not real savvy with forums and just look for what's easy. That's how it is, we can't change them. To keep the site popular, keep it easy. Lots of other forums, not just this one, have a majority of traffic in the regional section on things that have to do with getting people with like interests together in their respective area.

Every regional section should have a local lake maps pinned to it. The occasional visitor won't know about any pinned section.

Anyway, matters not to me. I just want it easy for the little guy.. Shoot, most are going to the THB Facebook page now anyway.

You have to speak for yourself on Facebook.
Many of us older dudes don't do Facebook and my attorney has instructed me not to get on it.
I had a hard time getting away from the punch cards.

I'm not talented enough to get on Facebook and drive anyway.

Has anyone looked at what has been Pinned?

Six of the eight items have to do with events taking place at local lakes, with several started over a year ago.  There is even one that has not been posted to for almost a month and as of today only four posts were ever made.

There is already a section specifically for events, racing, and numerous other categories that are now being Pinned in the North category only.  Sometimes, the same items is posted in several places making it even more time consuming going through the various categories.

Is the North a catch-all for anything and everything someone wants to post?  It seems like a waste and foolish to post in the NORTH section for things that are obviously specific topics, such as an events taking place.
Isn't that the reason for having specific categories?

At one time current items could be found by looking at listings that were at or near the top, now it has become a hodgepodge of threads with little rhyme or reason for where items are being posted.

I don't want to discourage anyone from posting to this site, but the Pinned items tend to be dominated by only a few individuals.
It's like teenage girls chit chatting that have nothing better to do.
Maybe there should be a section for chit chatting and PM's for everyone to see.

I didn't pin this thread, but I can't say that I am sorry that it was.
I know there are others that feel the pinning is overused too.
Maybe if everything was pinned, it would keep current topics on top where they belong.

Well, first half a page of crap was pinned, now nothing is pinned.... What's the point of having pins if we ain't gonna use them?

Weekly gathering are not really events. South guys don't care about BWW on Wednesday night. Just coordinating where to meet next. Nice to have it pinned so we can go right to it. Ever notice that like 3 or 4 of us post up about it, but like 20 or 30 people show up? There's a lot more reading than posting, guaranteed.

This has been the most activity in months today. Facebook is killing us! I have no idea how to use it from my phone, but apparently everyone else does. I try to link the THB on Facebook when I can to try and get em over here where it all belongs.

Got a fairly good sized event coming up in a couple of weeks that's all over the Facebook page, not a single mention of it on the actual THB website anywhere. Would be a great time in your boat George.

The problem with Facebook is that one cannot search for a thread or go back into a thread and update it.

Personally, I don't see where a pinned thread is hurting anyone.....big deal. The pinned threads that are in the North Sector, mostly for the North folks to find and keep track of what's going on. If anyone else wants to join in on our fun, they are most welcome......the more the merrier. However I don't see any harm in pinning a few pertinent threads......why is that hurting anyone? No one is stopping any other sector from doing the same.

James nails it on the head...what's the sense in having pins if a few unpin the threads and don't want anyone to use them? Up until now, there hasn't been any issues with pinned threads....Matt was upset about it a year ago....but to date, only two folks out of a few thousand members feel the pins are misused. I went through all of the sections on THB and found the North sector to be the only area, group of guys, using the pins. I think they're being used for what they're designed for.....to annotate important threads. If those pinned threads don't pertain to you....then don't look at them.

Pinning can serve a purpose only if it isn't overused.
Just because you have a dollar in your pocket doesn't mean you have to spend it.

I hope you were joking about why there are  pins.
If you aren't, you answered your own question.

"First half a page of crap was pinned."
I didn't want to put it that way, but since someone else said it, I have to agree.

If the weekly gatherings are not really events, what are they and why should they be Pinned.

Those who show up already know about them, and how many THB members go to their "GET-GATHERS" too.  They are week to week get-togethers, just like Joe Pool, Steel Creek, Lake Worth, and a dozen or more places.
A new thread should be started for each event, and they are events.  Certainly some are bigger than others, but it is still just a bunch of people getting together.
IMO, Pinning became overused when individual groups decided their gatherings were more important than others who get on THB "NORTH", as a whole.
Good or bad, all of us in the"NORTH have to share the "NORTH" category.  When everyone Pins an item, then the truly important items to all, just get lost or missed in the maze of Pinned items.
As was stated earlier, one of the Pinned items was over a month old and had a total of 4 posts.
Some of the Pinned items were over a year old.
IMO, Pinned items should be current and relevant items to everyone, not just a few.

Few items should ever be pinned.  Where the local lakes are located is a good example of a PINNED item.  That information doesn't change day to day.
Individual weekly get-together information should not be pinned because because that information usually changes for each meeting and not relevant two weeks or a month from now and applies only to a relativity few people.

3 or 4 talk about Wednesday night on here, 20 to 30 attend. They just read what we post and go after work. They know where to look for the info. It changes weekly but it's always pertinent.

Example, Lavon last Sunday. 3 or 4 talked about it, everyone else read about it. Had 9 jet boats show up (8 in the water, one on the trailer). Why? They knew where to look when they got home from church.

Got a video on the way as soon as I get the footage from Jen.

Why we pin.....  and why other guys from other lakes comment on how many people show up to these Lavon things all year round... Because pinning WORKS!

If you pin it, they will come.. LOLOL
