What up with pinning?

DOES EVERYTHING NEED TO BE PINNED?

If a topic is important it will stay at the top without pinning.  If it isn't that interesting then let it fade away.
Some of the topics aren't  even NORTH SPECIFIC.
If something needs to be pinned, then create a Topic Heading, "PINNED" and all Pinning should go there.
Pinning doesn't make them more important to everyone.

IMO, it's being way over used.

@kona...lol.

In the North sector, We have on going events/topics that should be pinned so we can easily find them without having to look through a ton of posts. For example, our Wednesday posts..... typically we will see some activity on that thread on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and an occasional Thursday however the rest of the week, there's no activity on it. If there's a bunch of new posting in the North sector, the Wednesday post will fade away....and one will have to dig it up.

A few months ago when someone else spoke of pinned threads, I went through and unpinned a few thread that didn't see activity for a few months/years. Are you saying it's time for me to go through them again? I typically keep an eye on the Norths threads.

There are a number of places others boat also and those posts are getting lost due to Pinning, perhaps we should start a Pinned list for Steele Creek, Joe Pool, Lake Worth, Grandberry, Lake Lewisville and many others.
If these Pinned items are really important, then create a section for Pinned only.
For me, it screws up the items being posted that are timely.  In some cases, the Pinned Posts are not even current topics and certainly not relevant to earlier posts in the earlier items.  Some of the Pinned items are no more than chat rooms of BS.
If posters have a current item, there is no reason a new thread should not be started and I am sure most know how.
You talk about having the Pinned Posts so that people don't have to sort through other posts.  If it is a Pinned item that has many threads that go back months and in some cases years, it's almost impossible to find a previous thread item in the mess.
Broken Bow somehow is Pinned in the North even though it's beyond the Red River.  Broken Bow is a topic that many are interested in and will follow closely as it has a rather large turnout as does several other places that end up in the North section even though, by definition are not a North items.

If posts are being made by region, they should be timely and relevant to that section and not something that goes on and on and on and on.
Let Pinned items be in a Pinned section.
Again, North is getting cluttered with Pinned items. IMO

Local Lake Maps is a good example of what should be pinned. It rarely get posted to but is always relevant. Especially when new guys show up at the lake. We've had a couple at Lavon already this year. We direct them to the Local Lakes thread to point them to where we are going to be so they can find the ramps and coves. There are quite a few I know of the use THB to find out where we are going to be but never post on here at all.

The Broken Bow thread is really for us around DFW that all convoy up there together, which is why it would be in our section. We rent cabins in the same neighborhood, meet up at the ramp, drive to the cliffs, and race the go carts, all that stuff. It's not just Lavon guys, there's a bunch of us that go as a big family. Again, the thread doesn't get posted to often, but when a new guy comes into the mix, the info is easy to get to if it's pinned. Helps the new guy feel welcomed and gives him an idea of how we roll.

I see your point on the normal weekly stuff though. It gets used enough it will stay near the top.

Jim, in addition to what Blaze mentions above, there's a "view unread posts" link in the section under your screen name in the top left corner of the page....by clicking on it, you'll be sure to see everything that was posted while you were away.

Upon further research, I realised the only pinned thread in the South is my hate thread! WTH? crazy.gif crazy.gif

The North is full of a bunch of dam pinners!

That must be because what the North boaters have to say is so important, unlike other areas. think.gif

I would agree the LOCAL LAKES could be a pinned item, but it should in be a section called "PINNED ITEMS" or GENERAL INFORMATION OR WHATEVER.
There are a lot of other lakes in Texas that could be posted in that section too, because there are lakes not in the North where a lot of the THB members go also.

I don't have a problem with a thread on Broken Bow in the North section, because as is pointed out, some from the North try to go as a group and it becomes a North interest.
I don't think it should be a Pinned item for the North though, as once it's pinned, it stays pinned forever.
As long as there is an active interest, it will stay at the top and be easy to find.  When the interest starts fading, it doesn't need to be at the top, much like other topics.

It makes me wonder too.
Could it be because the South area doesn't spend all of their time on the computer?
