wear ring

I just checked the Clearance on my impeller to wear ring and its .055  i knew it needed a wear ring when i had the pump apart but i was running out of funds and it didn't slip before i took it apart and it dont really now. Im just wondering how much its hurting the performance of the boat? How tight can i set the clearance?

some people run them as tight as .021

Yeah I was thinking of taking some shims out to pull the clearance as close to .020 as I can. The wear ring had some very small grooves in it but I used it anyways.

check end play on the shaft for bearing play, if none is there, take it to .020 or .025, it makes a big difference. Stay out of the sand.

That's what I was wanting to hear! Thanks bro! I have no play I just put new bearing and seals in it. Will I loose many rpm?

Yepper sure should, Just like a car spinning its tires, alot of RPM'S, noise and smoke but no go.. Same deal with the pump use the water that is there and not waste it persay.
