I actually work for a offshore labor provider, and I can answer your question of why non American labor is being hired offshore.  Really there are two reasons.  First is cost.  Foreign labor will work for significantly less money (between 20% to even 50%)  Second is work ethics.  It is unfortunate that some of the American labor unit feels as though they are entitled to more pay, and shouldn’t have to do hard work.  Well foreign labor is so thrilled to get to work in the Americas that they will work harder, longer, and for longer durations.

I am by no means an advocate for foreign labor, just answering your question as to why you are seeing more of it lately.

The US Govt needs to start releasing new permits for exploration in the gulf, and it should have approved the Canada pipeline project.  Building the pipeline would have provided thousands of US jobs, and maintenance of the pipeline would provide long term US jobs.  Basically, NObama is following his agenda, and pushing prices for non renewable energy up, so that funding for renewable energy will be easier to come by.

The reason diesel prices went up higher than regular is due to higher utilities cost. When our lovely gov decided  to mandate 50 ppm or less of sulfer the refineries had to add to the processing of it.A local plant here actually built another unit. But ya,that was 4 years ago,i'm sure it's paid for by now.I'm feeling the pain too.

I helped design that unit. Worked a lot of O.T. and got a ULSD coffee cup. USLD=Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel.
It was at Shell Deer Park, I think.

The new generation of labor is pretty sad, but the truly unfortunate thing is that the generation following them is even worse.

Why build a pipeline to buy more oil from Canada, why not approve more deep water permits, employee Americans, and build a pipe line from Deep water Gulf to the refinerys?  And while I'm on this rant, why am I hauling more and more South American labor offshore?  Is our work force so lazy and spoiled they wont do the work offshore, so the oil companys have to hire foreign workers? I was amazed to hear that picking Apples pays $150.00 a day and the farmer can't get any American labor to go to work.

the pipeline is good, if canada doesn't sell its oil to us, it will sell it to the chi-cons

That's why my son is looking for a job at age 16 not waiting till he is out of school like so many parents. If you are old enough to drive, you're old enough to work! :smile30:
