I know I am a little late to the show.  Patch and Cam have done a great job getting the updates installed.  There are a couple of issues that come mind pretty quickly for me.

1) We need to consolidate some sections.  As an example, how about we merge all those child boards under Wants and needs into one section called "Buy/Sell"Trade"?

2) I remember the pinned thread situation being an issue back in the day.  There is no reason any and every member can pin and unpin threads.  That should be a permission reserved for mods an admins.  I can explain my reasoning further if you need me to.

I made a change to the profile for all the sections.  The end result should be that regular members can no longer pin threads.  The existing pins remain intact but future threads can only be pinned or unpinned by mods and admins.  User can send a PM to a mod or admin if they feel a thread should be pinned and we can make that decision.

There is no need to pin a thread that is frequently posted in.  Those threads will stay on the first page just by having frequent posts.  Pinned threads are for informational threads that do not get replies or are locked.  A good example might be the local lake maps thread in the North section.  There should not be a ton of responses in that thread to keep it on top.  It does contain some good information to help hot boaters find each other.  Another good example would be a basic rules thread that the admins put in each section.  A thread like that should be locked and pinned.

Hope that makes sense.  If not lets discuss it further.  We can always change it back.

I totally agree with that. I remember in the past people would get drunk on pin everything. I thought what the hell these people are doing??

Made some wholesale changes to the organization of the forums.  Look them over and let me know what you guys think.  Still some work to do.  I consolidated some stuff and moved lots of other stuff.  No posts or topics were deleted.  No more child's boards in the for sale section.

I like that idea. Let our members actually log in, instead of creeping in the shadows. :smile30:

I can see what Disturbed is talking about with the race teams and racing being combined.  We can separate that back out.  What if we changed Racing to Bench Racing and combined it with "Bring it on"?

This racing and race teams is a tough one.  I can see where it needs to be separate.  The line is a little fuzzy to me.  I think it is just because the forum title is so similar.  I can see up to 3 forums related to racing.  1) Race Teams 2) Racing  3) Bench racing.

It is obvious what should go under Race Teams.  Racing is the one that gets a little fuzzy for me.  Bench racing, We all know what that is.  Any suggestions on how to split this one up?

I see the dilemma. Maybe a Race teams, and racing/bench racing. The teams part is for teams to post updates and race results. The rest is for whatever I guess.  think.gif

I split it back out.  I moved the two somewhat recent threads that made sense to me back to Race Teams.  Do you see anything else I should move back to Race Teams?  I believe the Race Teams  section was created by Stacy.  It can't be that old so the topics in there should be relatively new.

If I remember right the subscribed thread feature never worked correctly on here.  This is more just a reminder to look into that.  You should be able to subscribe to a thread and get notifications when someone replies.  Most boards you can select to receive a notification when you login or an email when someone replies.  It is a feature that will bring people back to the forums.

As I look at all the other forums I visit, this is the only one with the information blocks on the left.  These are the items on the left including Site Links, forum features, etc...  Not sure it really matters but it may make the forum display better on mobile devices if that stuff was on the right.  I don't believe it is that hard to move it from the left to the right.  Look at some of the other boards like PB RDP etc.  Let me know what you guys think.

I have a few minutes.  I am going to look through and unpin some of the threads that are no longer relevant or deserve to be pinned.

I did a little more section maintenance.  Mostly combined the 3 or 4 different picture sections.  We are getting there.  I still feel like we could move , merge and reduce a couple of sections in Marina Del THB.  Any input you guys have would be helpful.
