Thats 4 1/2 hours for us east tx folks, but looks like a really nice place. I'm in. Would be nice to have an owner that wants us there like Billy at Salina Bay here at home. But like I said my group would be interested in a new spot.  clap.gif

I had a poker run on the lake last summer and it was alot of fun. i had 5 stops on the lake at diff docks and ev boat drew a card at each dock and then came back and played their hand.

I won't speak for everyone, but with kids in school and finals coming in May tying up an entire weekend might be tough for me. Second weekend in June, hell yeah..... Although it's not like I won't be there if it's in May, just the gang probably wouldn't be coming. Or we'de make it a day trip and not stay the weekend.

Sounds like it will be a well put together event though. Bill will have to get Performance Boat Magazine out there again.

Now this is a great idea.. Cliff and I are in for sure on a poker run with our Ford boats, not sure about those GM guys though.... DOH!!

Seriously though, some of the flat bottoms and hydros are only made for 1/4 mile type action, or least for shorts runs really really fast. Don't know that boats like that would want to do a poker run, but we have quite a few cruisers that could if enough interest is there.

James, you read my mind man! I'm all about the second week of June 2011 (June 10-12, 2011). That way the kids are out of school, the soccer and football seasons are over and that weekend is my weekend with the kids. (BTW, my kids are serious "Jet Boat" kids...lol).

Billy, I think the Lake Patrol issue was mentioned earlier in this post. The way to offset a lake cop issue is to make sure everyone has their registration cards on board their vessels and also all of the required USCG equipment on board the vessel too. A basic "Safety Inspection" would prevent many warnings or citations from being handed out. When I was a "Water cop" in the Florida Keys in the late 80's and early 90's, probably 95% of the citations I handed out could have easily been prevented by the operator doing a simple safety inspection before taking their boats to the water.

An event like you are describing would be great. I will plan to be there. But dates should looked and coordinated. Sounds like a great idea with what you are talking about. On the inspections, you are absolutely right. It is the operators responsibility. The rules and requirements are there and in plain english. Looking forward to seeing and being apart of an event at your place.

I have no problem with some one doing a safety inspection on  our boats  before we run . I just hope they know how to correctly interpet the law .. Just like at Plowman , the Warden down there was incorrect on the requirement for the baffles or mufflers.. I have proof of that that i will carry in my boat now that the TPWD faxed to me after the Plowman event .  I just heard through the grapevine that the lake patrol used to be pretty hard on the loud and fast boats . Just passing info on to what I heard .
I always run my boat Legal , it not worth the chance of getting a ticket

I think this will be a good place to do an event ..

I think we need to go slow here guys and let's make a trail run early next year before everyone starts to hit the water. You guys know how we like to have the water to ourselves so we don't have a ton of jetski's or other watercrafts in our way. We need to check out to see how the water would be if there was to be wind. We need to know about stumpy areas. I think the owner is trying and willing to do his best to get us to come out.Looks like he has plenty of people and support for us to be there. This could be the start of something newand could possibly be a replacement for Plowman's. I know I have tlaked to Steve(borderlineCrazy) about a possible weekend venture this spring to check it out. I know when I first started going to Jetfest Years ago we would have so many boats and it was known we were going to be there that it turned out to be nothing more than a boat show on water. The general public knew we were there and the lake would be full of boats out to see us. Anyways looks like a place to think about some type of event for next year. Bill"cookieman"

Bill : I am all for going to check it out this Spring to see the lake. Let me know when , maybe a few of us can caravan down with our boats to make a few runs on the water and check the lake out ..

This lake might be far enough out in the boonies to where other boating traffic may not be a big issue. But yeah. It needs to recon'd before a decision is made. Count me in for a recon day. We can take some cruisers down to check the water out.

Actually during the peek summer days of holidays and such Lake Brownwoods population double with the people coming from midland odessa area.
I was thinking the middle or end of may simply to try to limit the number of kids out on the lake - I would think the lake patrol and game wardens would be less likely to be so harsh if we kinda ease them into the fast and loud boats. But i do have a good relationship with them and i dont see the noise as being a problem for a special event.
One sure way to keep them off our back is to make the poker run or some sort of event tie to a charity of some sort - We could raise a little money for a local charity and that way with all the radio adds i would do and the newspaper adds - at least the people who live on the lake would know what all the rucuss is about. The people are actualy the ones who make the game wardens and the ;lake patrol come after you - Those guys are just doing their job and if nobody complains about what kind of job they are doing then they have no reason to pester loud boats .
Its my job to keep them at bay and i will do whatever PR work needs to be done. I mean as long as everyone is responsible enough to CHECH THEMSELVES - then it makes their job easier and it makes for a fun weekend instead of things geting ugly.
I will invite the game wardens and lake patrol to the beach and make them a part of the event - instead of trying to outlaw them .

I LIEK TO CONSIDER MYSELF A PROMOTOR AND I THINK A GOOD PROMOTOR WOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE LAW IS FALLOWED AND THE TOYS GET TO PLAY.
I THINK ITS ALL ABOUT A BALANCE OF FUN AND WORK.  THE LAKE PATROL AND GAME WARDENS HAVE A JOB TO DO AND WE HAVE FUN THAT NEEDS TO BE HAD.
SO THEY WORK AND WE PLAY.
AS LONG AS WE DONT THROW IT IN THEIR FACE WHEN WE BEND A RULE OR MAKE A LITTLE NOISE OR EVEN HAVE A FREINDLY BOAT RACE - THEN I THINK ALL WILL BE FINE.
THE MAIN MAN ON THE LAKE IS A GUY NAMED    BOB PACKETT.  HE HAS HAD A REP FOR BEING HARD NOSED LAKE PATROL BUT HE IS REALLY A GOOD GUY AND HE HIMSELF IS THE ONE WHO CAME TO THE BEACH AND ASKED WHEN I WAS GOING TO GET THE SOUTHERN DRAG BOATS AND SUCH TO COME BACK. HE HIMSELF USED TO HAVE A VERY LOUD AND FAST DRAG BOAT.
HE IS A FAN
NOT AN ENEMY - BUT HE DOES HIS JOB.
HE TLD ME THE DECIBLE LIMIT IS 85 DECIBLES ON THE LAKE . HE IS THE GUY WHO MAKES THE DECISION IF ITS TOO LOUD OR NOT. I CAN TELL YOU THAT BASIC BOATING SAFETY IS MORE OF A CONCERN THAN NOISE FOR HIM . THE GAME WARDENS ARE MOSTLY YOUNG GUYS WHO FOR THE MOST PART WOULD WELCOME SOME EXCITEMENT AND SOMETHING TO DO BESIDES THE SAME OLE SAME OLE.
IN SUMMARY THE LAKE POLICE SHOLDNT SCARE ANYONE OFF.

How far away is that reading taken?  I'm sure mine might fall below that number............. from the other side of the lake.  :smile23:

85 db? Wow, I can almost fart as loud as 85 db man. Seriously though, 85 db is about as loud as a lawn mower.
