I know they exist for a reason, but no way would I live somewhere with an HOA...

People telling me where I can & can't park a '72 Regal with 3 wheels on it is bullshit! lol

Smartest comment anyone here has made here about HOA's.  If you don't like them, Don't buy a house that has one.  I've been on all sides of this.  I have built near a house that turned into a total trash pit and wished there was an HOA to protect the value of my investment.  I have built in a neighborhood with an HOA. After the neighborhood took over from the builder I did not like some of the rules so I ran for office, became president and organized change to the way the rules were interpreted.  We are now in a neighborhood with no HOA where we purchased an existing home.  There are however deed restrictions to keep it from getting too out of control over here.

You all knew the rules when you closed on the house.  I was the President of the HOA in my old neighborhood.  You would be amazed at how petty people are.  If you don't like the rules, run for the board and campaign to change them.  Otherwise, Quit cher bitchin.

Easy there big fella  ......no one handed me a book with HOA guidelines when i bought the house....nor did I receive any paperwork....even after speaking with the HOA resident and the actual HOA management company, I still haven't received anything to use a a guide. I have EVERY piece of paper that was given to me when I bought this house and there's nothing in there pertaining to the bylaws of my HOA.

None the less, I bought my 13' Whaler after I moved into the house...... but at closing we asked about keeping a horse trailer in the driveway and they said it wouldn't be a problem....so naturally I didn't think it would be a problem with a boat either.

It is state law that those papers were included in the documents you signed at closing.  They may not have been pointed out to you and you may not have read them but they were provided to you.

I'm telling you, I DO NOT have them. I asked for them at closing and several times since...I DO NOT have them.

Laws are only there for people who want to abide by them.

Dude take it down a notch, I was just playing.  I bet I have the nicest house in my neighborhood.  I understand the purpose of the HOA

Sorry, It is just a thorn in my side.  I have seen how people are and everyone has an excuse.

Cliff, Documents or not, you knew there was an HOA when you bought the house.  Sellers, Builders will tell you anything you want to hear to get the house sold.  You should know better than most that verbal means nothing unless it is backed up with black and white documents.

Again, Sorry for my rant.  This is just one subject that wears me out.

Ya, I could see it bein a double-edged sword at times. I'm sure we have them around here, but while looking at houses, I don't think we ever ran across any that had an HOA... Then again, I don't even look at houses that have neighbors close by so the HOA thing has never been an issue.

LOL, that comment to Cliff, "you knew the rules"... *smack*...  that made me chuckle...

True, I knew there was an HOA but this is the first neighborhood I've lived in that had one....so though I should have known.....I didn't. I'm also aware that ignorance is no excuse for breaking a rule or law..... but I was not given the proper documentation.....even ater specifically asking for it.

None the less, what's done is done and I have to live with it...not a big deal, we all adapt to our environment and I have to chalk it up to experience.

Peace.

He man, there was a sprinkle of rain on my trucks windshield this morning....how about that?

They did the same thing to me cliff. I asked them about my boat and they said it wouldn't be a problem. Turns out it is! They do serve a purpose but I hate someone telling me I can't put my boat in my driveway! I grew up on 25 acres so its a big change for me.

I hear ya.  The HOA was a big change for me as well in the beginning.  Unless you have lived with one you really don't understand what they are all about.  Some love them Some hate them.

I don't have any complaint except for the boat thing. They do help keep the value of my house as good as Obama will let it be.
