ON THE ROAD AGAIN

This is from last fall on Riverdaves boat. The picture is deceiving. We were just coming on plane to make a run so the helio could shoot the boat. It was a perfect moment when a lot of different things had to come together at once. This pic is now my screen saver on my laptop and Dave has a 3' x 5' copy hanging on his garage wall.

That was an epic weekend. Hanging out with RD was very entertaining to say the least.

I have talked to him a few days ago and will try to get up to Havasu and Parker before I leave. The place to stay in Parker is the Blue Water Casino and resort and it's closed thru July. The Indian tribe controls all the casinos along the river. In Havasu the coolest place is the London Bridge Resort and it's booked every weekend thru July. I may go up in the middle of the week. All the locals say the weekends are just to crazy to launch.

The London Bridge looks like a real nice area. I hope to get over there one day myself. :smile14:

Dinner with friends at a local watering hole/restaurant near Blythe. All the catfish you can eat Friday. Neat little place with a one man band. He is quite good. Note the flip flops on the ceiling. Came back to camp and watched the red full moon.

We had a great weekend on the water in Blythe. The river was up all weekend. I'm going back to Phoenix with the boat because next weekend we are going to Canyon Lake which is Northeast of Phoenix. As you can see from the pics we eat well. The ribeyes were on the grill. Rob and Parker caught some catfish saturday and we eat them that evening and Sunday for lunch. Boat traffic was light again on Sunday.

Looks like a good time for sure. We were at the beach when that moon come up, quite a site. That water is fairly cold isn't it? Compared to what we normally boat in anyway... I bet it's nice in the heat though. :smile17:

I have a heat gun and it shows the water temp to be 77 to 80 depending on where you are and how deep the water is. It's brisk but refreshing. It's been unusually cool here. Sunday night I had a light jacket on. It won't last though. It's supposed to be in the low 100's this weekend.

Oh,I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm up 5 lbs from when I left College Station. Considering what we eat and drink on weekends that's about what I figured.

I talked to my wife last night and she said the damn deer got in the garden and ate a lot of the beans and lettuce. I guess we are going to build a fence around the garden.

Dang, you must be eating good!  clap.gif

Deer are bad news to gardens for sure. They have ate everything my wife has tried to grow.  crazy.gif

Deer eat the garden, you eat the deer. You get the benefit of both.  :smile28: Out of luck if you just want salad though.  :smile16:

This is the first time the deer have bothered the garden since we moved up here (2.5 years). My inlaws said deer used to be a problem along with rabbits but not so much lately. I need a fence that has gates and can be removed in sections. I was thinking those metal "Tposts" and hog wire or something like that. I'll have to talk to a fence company when I get back.

We had an awesome day on Canyon Lake Saturday. The lake part of Canyon is small, maybe a mile long and half mile wide. The river part runs for 8 miles thru canyons to a dam. The Salt river starts at Lake Roosevelt then flow South west to Apache Lake, formed by a dam. Next is Canyon Lake, another dam, and then Saguaro Lake, another dam, then the river flows thru Phoenix.

I haven't been to Apache Lake because it't difficult to get to. Canyon is only one hour from their house and Saguaro is just a little longer. I've been on Saguaro and it's similar to Canyon but a little bigger. Still it's more river that lake.

Getting back to Saturday. We got to the launch area at 11 AM and the parking lot was full. The ranger said we might not be able to park there but could launch. It's a real nice 6 lane launch ramp with a long floating dock. We didn't have to wait to launch since we were so late. We got lucky and found a parking spot in the second parking area. Just a short walk back to the dock.

We cruised around the lake part for a bit, it was pretty choppy. Damn tubers and wakeboarders!!!!! We went back into a cove to decide what we were going to do next. We decided to head up river thru the canyons. I figured there would be less boats and waves. It was still pretty busy up river. We went all the way to the dam, 8 miles, then back to a beach area well populated with boats.

I'm going to post some pics now and continue the narrative later.

Ok, I posted pics, got a fresh cup of coffee and am ready to continue.

The second time we went up river we beached next to a wake board boat that was blasting tunes my granddaughter liked.
The people were all very friendly and we stayed there for 3 hours just eating lunch, drinking and hanging out listening to the tunes. The guy controls his stereo from his wrist watch!!

Oh, the water temp up river was 70. That's COLD!!!! You jump in but don't stay in very long. The temp back in the cove we went into was 77 which is a lot more tolerable.

We left the beach around 5 and headed back to the launch ramp. A lot less traffic that time of day and the cruise was mostly smooth. We got back home around 7. The only damage to the boat was one of my front speaker boxes needs to be reattached and my trailer license plate almost came off.

All and all it was a beautiful day on the water. Temp was in the high 90's with some clouds that gave us a break from the sun occasionally.

Got rid of the trailer locking lug nuts. They were pretty worn out.
