I think ours around Dallas are more greenish from algea. Great for fishin in. When it rains though, all the city lakes (I speak for Ray Hubbard) turn brown because all the storm drains run into the reservoirs. Then they're brown for a day or two before they go back to green. Texas Parks calls them stained, not muddy.

EDIT: and what Matt said too, particles being suspended. Not really muddy, except for where we back our jets out of the shallow water.. LOL

I gotcha... Coleto Creek reservoir here in town & Lake Somerville are more the green water like you describe. Texana for example, will green up some if the wind stays down long enough. Most of the time it looks like this though.

Like was said, the color of the water doesn't matter much to me. I'll sit there neck deep with a cold beer no matter what. :grin:

Eww, our lakes don't look like that at all. Take a look at the Labor day video that Blaze made and that's what we have. Your water is one step up from a mud pit..... sorry.

I guess when you put it in perspective, our water is a tad bit clearer...

Is that pic from the boat ramp right off of 111 on the east side of the lake?

LOL I knew that pic would get a reaction. :grin: That ramp is off the main body of the lake up in a little cut I guess you'd call it. Not sure why we used that ramp that day. Main part of the lake won't be that bad, more like in those vids you mention. That pic was for shock value, lol... crazy.gif :smile30: :smile16:

yup... :cheesy: Thing about that lake, is that there are 2 campgrounds on it, a state park & a privately owned park around the way. Both campgrounds are really pretty damn nice & boat traffic out there is pretty much nonexistant. Might see some lake lice every now & then & some fishermen is about it. If the wind stays down, the water will flatten out & it won't be so chocolatey. :grin:

Its a nice change of pace from Coleto Creek which can be a frikkin 3 ring circus sometimes. crazy.gif

D'man, ya sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. Hope you can make it to Lavon this summer and soak in our mud/sediment/algae pit for a few days.

D'man, our lakes in the North are far from clear. In fact, if you can see an outline of your jet drive, that's considered clear 'round these parts. Muddy lakes for sure.

I'll be damned, here I was thinking the farther north you get the lakes all be cleaner water. We went to Stillhouse Hollow which is around Temple I believe? That water was pretty dang clear. And Medina, fuggedaboutit, super clear from what little I saw. Never been on Travis or Canyon though.

So muddy lakes huh, you'd be at home down here some of these places then. I'll have to post a pic of Texana, lol. That lake looks like chocolate milk a lot of the time... :grin:

Kenny

Sounds like your lakes are just like ours.

Lavon = Choclate milk
Hubbard = Snot green.

It's not that they are "Dirty" there is just a lot of suspended particles.    Around Hubbard it is all Texas Black Gumbo Clay.  Lavon is more caliche dust.  The clay and caliche dust are so fine around here it does not take much to get it suspended.  Once you get down there around Temple and Austin your into more white rock and sand.  That stuff is heavy and large enough it settles quickly.  Canyon was a kick A$$ lake about 10 years ago.  That is where we did our check out dives.  It was probably 20' - 25' visibility.  Not sure about it now but I think it is still pretty nice.

If you want a fantastic lake, Ouchita is the place to go. It is the only lake in the nation to support fresh water sponges and jelly fish.  I believe it is the 2nd clearest lake in the nation.  On a good day it can be 50' - 60' visability

Sounds like you guys need to go visit Lake Ray Roberts north of Denton.  When I went I was neck deep in water and I could see my feet!  :smile16:
