Far as the gauges are concerned, pretty sure they came from here: http://www.boatersland.com/faria.html That is the site I sent to my wife when she asked where to get them from, so I would assume thats where they came from. Got the 6 gauge set for 159.00. I haven't seen the silver face gauges anywhere yet, doesn't mean they are not out there. Also could try here: http://www.oldboatgauges.com/

Oh yeah, don't keep track of what you spend. When its over (and its never over) you may not wanna know, lol!

I know the expense is never over but I do want to keep track of what it cost for the rebuild compared to buying a boat already done.  I pride myself on getting more for my money.  Of course I don't charge for my labor and that's half the expense.

Regarding the Gauges I have been watching several places that carry new old stock stuff.  Those pictures are from ebay.  I just couldn't convince the wife to spend the money on them yet.  Hoping I can find something like them when its time otherwise its white faced gauges.

Yessir, thats what most everybody here is all about. Heckuva story with that crossmember comin out... :cheesy: I have drug home a few "projects" that went about the same. crazy.gif

When you get pics of the intake for that depression you are talking about, get pics from the same area underneath the boat if you can. May help identify exactly what you are talking about....

Welcome to THB, I'm right down the road in Brenham, usually go to Sommerville, or any place the gang goes.  Around your neck of the woods will be Canyon lake, Corpus Christ lake, and the Colorado river at Bay City.  Even if you don't get the boat water ready, come on out and drink an adult beverage with us.  There are plenty of us that will give you a ride!

I hope to see you out there.  I plan on really giving this boat a run for its money out in Limestone Lake since its near where my brother in law lives in Franklin (near Bryan).  My only real fear is that I wont enjoy this boat here on Lake Dunlop since it's really just a Damned lake but then again so are 99% of the lakes in Texas, but it's just the river in a spot that's wider and deeper than the rest of the Guadalupe river with a damn at the end.

I think it will be fun just don't think I will get up on plane easily since by the time it gets up to speed I will have to slow down for a blind corner.

Canyon Lake haven't been out on the water there and it seems pretty big but I know it gets crowded and its only 30 minutes away.  I haven't been to or heard of the other places you mentioned.  Really only been into boating for 3 years now always been other things like race cars and motorcycles.  Of course I grew up on Lake Michigan so was always near the water.  Boating I always thought was for the rich people growing up.  Now I know its affordable but expensive.  I do remember water skiing when i was younger at my aunt and uncles place.  I have two sets of skis I kept after selling my last boat along with the vests and tubes for the kids so all the toys are ready to go out just need the boat ready.

I am pushing to get her down at least splashed for my birthday this year on April 25th or the closest weekend.  It may not have the interior done yet, but by golly it should still be able to be driven.  Just need to put in some homer buckets for seats.  LOL

There are several gathering places here there & yonder if ya don't mind a bit of traveling. Then there is usually a "big" event about once a month give or take, in central, north, & south areas... So you get that rig runnin & you'll have all the water you can handle.

That's good to hear I am sure the family will be up for it and if not oh well I will be.

Last post for now and this is one I know everyone will enjoy.  SO here is the deal on the motor.  I stalled the entire project because getting motor parts was very hard to find.  I searched craiglist across the entire country and found one in Michigan was a complete pull out from a wooden boat that had just rotted away and got stripped it was running the summer before the tear down.  It had the velvet drive for $500 i offered him $300 for the motor alone since I know that velvet drive can sell for $250 easy.  Well he countered with $400.  It included everything I needed, motor mounts and oil pan to carb and flame arrestor.  It also included the mahagony stringers it was mounted to and manifolds with exhaust hoses of which I didn't need the manifolds but I did need new exhaust hose.  And it included the flywheel, bellhousing and starter.  Of those I didn't need the bellhousing.  The only challenge getting from Michigan to Texas.  Now since I am from Michigan and it was about an hour and a half away from my home town I had a buddy of mine go pay for it and pick it up.  A neighbor of mine was supposed to go get it for me but was not able to after all since he cancelled his trip to Indiana.  Shipping was about $250 and the wife nixed that real quick.  The way she saw it was I had already gone over my motor budget with the $500 I had to spend (had to pay for my buds gas and wire him the money) to get the motor picked up what she didn't realize I had budget $300 for just a junkyard 360 truck motor not including all the accessories and this was still way under budget by about $300.  Needless I didn't win.  So that was May in December I start planning a trip to Michigan for Christmas in that budget a Hitch for the Minivan.  My buddy was giving me a trailer and the motor got put on it and hauled back on the Christmas trip behind the minivan.  So without further delay here is that motor.

Holy cow, you really goin all out on it, split it & everything... Guess if you gonna do it, may as well do it all the way huh....

I've been reading an article from an old Popular Mechanics online, pretty neat, it explains how that pump works, which always puzzled me as it doesn't have a traditional nozzle like you usually see on a jet pump.It also says something about the bottom design & how its shaped to feed water into the intake. That may be part of that depression area you were asking about.

I have not looked at all your photobucket pics yet but I wanted to post up on a couple things before I forget.  Very cool project.  One of the guys in our group's dad used to work at Chrysler boats.  I can't remember if it was Donnie or Mike Arcan.  I have brushed stainless gauges in my Ambassador.  I got them from Hardin Marine.  I am very pleased and they were affordable.

You might find this writeup useful.  THB scales pics down.  This tells you how to post clickable thumbs from Photobucket.

Probably already saw this but here is a google book article from Popular Science with a little info about that Chrysler drive.

On the CCW starter.  Check with a local alt/starter shop.  If you can't find one down there I am pretty Hammond Bros here in Garland will build you one.  He has done a couple for the Ford guys in our area.

Good luck on meeting your splash date.  I used my Ambassador for a full summer with no seats in it at all.  LOL.

I agree Kenny.  Interesting stuff.  Where is that article you found?  Also those Faria gauges are pretty nice in stainless too.  I had not seen those.

EDIT:  I think I found it.

From above article.  LOL.  "In sudden stops.  Randy obligingly revved her up, and both of us took solid grips to guard against leaving our teeth on the windshield when she stopped.  Unfortunately, we were going just a wee mite too fast."

Thanks for the link yeah I like those gauges too.  It's the look I am going for.  Subtle changes from stock so as to not appear changed from stock.  I plan on keeping the factory colors but you can't go wrong with red white and blue.  I appreciate the links I hadn't seen that article before.  I have seen the first one though.  I have mine all torn down but haven't pulled the impeller yet.  It seems stuck on it and I am not about to break it.  Everything is tight and no bearings are loose so I might just change the oil and let her rip.  Some of the parts I removed need to be cleaned up though.  The way this one works is instead of pushing all the water straight out the back it splits it into two streams one left and one right and the diverter helps with the steering and when you need reverse it opens up to create the reverse flow nothing needs to be rotated down over the opening for reverse it just opens up and immediate reverse.  I will try to get some pictures of the operation of it to show everyone.
