hello all, my name is Jeremy doran. :smile30: i live in Katy Texas and i work for western airways, a private jet charter company :smile17: based out of sugar land municipal airport in sugar land Texas. i found out about Texas hot boats from a fellow colleague.. who's name will remain confidential. :smile23: anyways this fellow colleague of mine has decided that I'm the coolest person ever and thinks that if i buy a boat that he will get the opportunity to hang out with me more often jump.gif (actually he is jealous of my superior intelligence and wants to hang out with me to learn the ways of a master genius) :smile30:  i don't do the outdoorsy thing much. I'm fairly new to this whole outdoor deal. my idea of fun is taking a trip to the museum or taking a road trip to a coastal region such as corpus or Galveston or matagorda, ect.  i was recently given my first gun for my bday last sunday. a 12 gauge shot gun. i like to shoot clays or skeet whatever you call it. i like to fly airplanes. i like to make beer, I'm a home brewer, on my 5Th batch.. i currently have two brews underway right now, German hefeweizen in one fermenter and arrogant brown IPA in another fermenter, they should be ready to drink mid-march. my favorite beer is Ruination IPA from Stone Brewery. i suggest you pick up a 6 pack at your local beer store if you can afford to spend $18 for a 6 pack :smile13: its well worth it. i dont drink BMC (bud, miller, coors) because its disgusting yellow fizzy crap. an Australian once said "drinking American light beer is like having sex in a kayak, its fucking close to water."  clap.gif ha ha anyways I'm entertaining the idea of purchasing a boat. i want a starter boat maybe like a bass fishing boat or something similar so i can learn how to pull a trailer and launch a boat. my colleague disagrees and thinks i should go strait to the top and get a jet boat. any suggestions? i look forward to your kind welcomes and thoughtful insight. hopefully i will get the opportunity to meet you fine people on the river..

Welcome aboard shipmate!!

Forget the Bass boat, jump into a nice 20 or 21 foot mini day-cruiser....nice boats, 55-60 mph and easy to handle.

If you fly RC planes, you'll fit right in. If you fly real ones, you'll fit in too...(I'm a CFI, CFII, MEI). There's a few pilots on these boards.

Pull up a chair and make yourself at home....these THB folks show their teeth but don't bite so don't worry none. Lol.

C'mon up to Lake Lavon which is North of Dallas and hang with us a day or two....and bring some of that home brew you got fermenting at the house.....we certainly will help you dispose of it especially if it's 10 or 12 pt.

Take care!

With an intro like that, you give me the impression that you're looking for a date.  crazy.gif crazy.gif

Anyway, forget the bass boat!  If you want to fish, fine, I'll take you sometime if you don't act queer.  Taylor Tim's old SJ would be a good boat.  (you know, the link I sent you).

BTW, welcome aboard Junior!

Just had a thought.  Get a 14 ft John boat and a 25hp outboard.  It'll teach you everything you want to know without breaking the bank.  :smile30:

I'm right up the road in Brenham, go to  Lake Sommerville, and the San Jac river.  You had me worried with the museum and indoorsey type, but if you make BEER welcome to Texas Hot Boats.
Now what type of boat do you want?  I suggest (after the weather warms up) you meet up with other Hot Boaters and try out different rides.  Nearly all these guy and gals, love to show off their stuff and will give you some good insight in to the good and bad of boat ownership.  I'd be happy to meet you at Sommerville, or I can pick you up on the way to the San Jac.  This forum is a great place to find out where everyone is going to be on day to day.
I also am a pilot/mechanic (APT, CFII, A&P) but I took the helicopter route.
Welcome to Texas Hot Boats, bring Beer.

NOW, is good time to look for a boat.  Prices generally go up with temperature.  Besides, it'll give you time to go through everything and make sure it's alright before it hits the water.  You can always bring it to work and I'll help you with it.  ie...  You work, I supervise.

Disturbed is right, prices are down, but if you have NEVER had a boat before, I strongly suggest you research your decision.  There are NO free boats, most of us drink Bud, Coors and Miller because all our money is in our boats.  When I show up at the lake with Bush, I probably am sporting a new part on my ride.

Good to have ya, way to make an entrance.. Not sure I would go the "starter" boat route. May as well jump in with both feet. There is something out there for pretty much any budget. See something you like post it up & you will get all sorts of feedback. A good portion of it will even be useful, lol.. :cheesy:

Seriously though, all sorts of people here that can & will help ya out with questions & what-not. Bought my first jet in 2005. Think its been the best waste of money these past 5 years I've run across so far.

LOL, I hear ya. I didn't have anybody to ask or talk to when I bought mine. It helped that it turned out I knew the guy that was selling it, but still. Its good that you got him in here where he'll get unbiased opinions.  :cheesy: Just depends on what hes gonna do with it & where he's gonna run it. What about your Carribean?? Or Wakemaker's Kindsvater, that will give him all he needs to know about these things.

Yeah, I know he doesn't want a project.  He'll be a little overwhelmed with a project.  Like he said, he's new to dirt.  lol.
