Another place to boat is always welcome.  It can be one where you or some of those who use your lake go, reducing how busy your lake might be.
However I a few concerns.  Where do they get the water for it when there is already not enough water for the current lakes and
the expected completion date is 2017, or two years.  That seems pretty aggressive as far as building it.

I'll admit I don't know the water conditions near where the lake is being built, nor do know how long it takes to normally build a lake.
Just wondering.

Anyone from that area that might know?

The Highland lakes are fed by the upper basin.  The upper basin is MUCH more arid than the lower basin.  Where they're talking about building the reservoir is as about far down river as you can go and still provide irrigation water for the farmers in Wharton and Matagorda counties.  Jim, I'm with you though.  How in the world are they going to construct a lake that fast?

I wouldn't think it would impact it at all.  The irrigation pumping plant is still right there in Bay City.  Maybe someone will come forward with more details in the near future.  I'll be watching this closely.

So if I understand this diagram, they will pump it out of the river, until full. Then the hill country lakes can taper their release rate and the reservoir will supply the farmers down here. That doesn't sound good for boating around Altair.  think.gif

A couple years ago, LCRA was talking about 2 downstream reservoirs.  One in Wharton county and one in Colorado county.  If the one in Colorado county is built, it would have to supply water at or, above the Altair pumping plant.

If there is no water in the river it would not be a lot of fun sitting in a boat on a river bed with no water.  I know I would catch the same amount of fish but it still would not be any fun.  think.gif
