New day cruiser project

Worked on the seats mounts a little bit today.  The pedestal base has a 9" circumference.  I started with 3/4" marine plywood.  I measured a 10" square and cut it out using my circular saw set at a 45* angle.  I then centered the pedestal and marked for the holes.  Initially I drilled an 1/8 hole using my bench top drill press so I had a reference on the bottom.

(All pics are clickable thumbs)

From the bottom of the base I used a 15/16 spade bit to create a recess for the 5/16 stainless T-nuts.  I used my drill press again.  It was pretty easy to get the depth right.  It was basically 1 ply of the wood.  The glue was a dark brown between each ply.  As soon as I saw the color change from the glue I knew it was about right.

Back to the top I used a 3/8 bullet point bit to enlarge the holes to be big enough for the T-nut shaft and bolts.  The bullet point bit centered very well in the 1/8 pilot hole.

I used a stringer washer and bolt to pull the T-nuts in nice and straight.

Ready to install in the boat.

They would be perfect if you could quit your coke habit long enough to cut a straight line....

Just kidding man, that looks good. Are you gonna wrap the wood in the carpet used on the floor?

LOL @ James.  Them lines is damn straight bro.  LOL.

The plan is to bed then in and glass them down.  They will be covered with carpet when I do the rest of the boat.  It will be a pretty smooth transition once they are glassed down to the sole.    The carpet should lay pretty flat over them.  Sure wish I could get off this couch and go work on it.  It's killing me being layed up with all this great weather we are having.

Jasson, We already have the disco ball  :smile30:

Ready to see some progress on this beast, be a good one to carry us through the off season. Such a cool old boat. :smile17: Nice work on those seat bases, wish I had that kind of talent for woodworking.

Picked this up at Home Depot the other day.  It's better than the other one I already had for the boat.  This one has lights and a rotating base all in one.  Perfect for the stabbin cabin.

More new to me used parts came in today.  I scored an original hydraulic trim setup for a Jacuzzi YJ.  It is all there except the switch.  Hopefully it works.  Even if it does not I am sure I can rebuild it.  Sucks I am loosing all the good weather days to this back thing.  :smile25:

Here are a few pics of the trim setup and the story on how I got it.  Teded on PerformanceBoats.com posted pics of a boat he was thinking about buying. I noticed it had a YJ with hydraulic trim. Teded decided not to buy the boat so he gave me the number to the person selling it. I am in TX the boat was in CA. I contacted the seller (Robert) and asked if he would sell just the trim off the boat. He agreed to sell but would not pull the parts and ship them for me.

I posted on Performance Boats again looking for someone to pull the parts and ship them. I actually found another member, Mash On It, from AZ that was going to be within 2 miles of the boat in CA but he was pulling a trailer and could not park close enough to pull the parts for me. I finally convinced Robert to pull the parts and take them to Mash On It. Mash On It then hauled the parts back home to AZ and boxed them up and shipped them to me.

It was quite a logistical nightmare but FedEx showed up today and I finally have my YJ hydraulic trim system!! I'm stoked.

The ram is free and smooth.  Hopefully the pump works.  The only thing missing is the toggle switch.  Just gotta figure out how to wire the switch now.

Got the wiring figured out.  The pump motor works great.  Next step, assemble it on the bench and put some ATF in it to check the seals.

WOE-HO-HO there cowboy!!! You better slow it down or you'll be in a chair all of next summer. LOL.

But glad it all works. I know the switch on my place diverter is funky bacause the pump goes both ways, pushing and pulling the fluid. Or more like pushing it out either port, while sucking it into the other port.

(I see references to Cliff imminent.)

Boy, That post has Cliff written all over it.  He is liable to get all excited reading it with his He/She fetish.

I know I probably shouldn't be out there messin with this stuff but all the parts are under my 15# lifting limit.  This one wires a little different than the Place hydraulic pump.  Thanks to GT Jets over at JBP I got it figured out.  It has 3 wires.  Black (-) Blue (+) up, Green (+) down.  The Place wiring is a little more complicated.  It actually switches the polarity at the switch so there are 4 wires involved.

Good News/Bad News/Maybe OK???

The ram has a bad seal so it leaks

Good - The cylinder walls are in great shape.

Bad - The seals are hosed (Not that bad though since Tom @ JBP has them)

Maybe OK - The ram has some corrosion.  I think this may be OK though since the seals are right on the end of the ram.  Where the ram is corroded is outside the hydraulic pressure area so it really has no bearing on the seal.

Worked on the windshield today.  I went about this one a little differently then when we did Cliff's.  I was working by myself so it took a little more finagling.  I had my old broken windshield as a form.  I cut it into 3 pieces.  I clamped one end of the old windshield to the back the new piece.  I then heated the new piece with my heat gun until it was pliable enough to form to the old piece.  Repeated the same procedure for the other side and then the middle.  Worked like a champ but it was a little slower than the way we did Cliff's.  Anyway, It is not perfect but it looks good enough for this ride.

Good to see you're working on it. I thought maybe this thing became a leaf collector. You coming for a few tomorrow afternoon?

I doubt it.  I have too much I want to get done around here.  Now that I can work in the shop a little I want to get it organized so I can hit the 72 hot and heavy here soon.  Goal is to get the engine and trans out so I can rep-seal them and get the thing inspected.  No plan for any rebuild just a reseal so I can drive it and re-evaluate everything.  It's been over 10 years since I drove that thing regularly.
