With the LS you will save about 300 pounds or so  :smile30: not to mention that performance parts are everywhere , and can be had pretty cheap on the used market .

If you want no dizzy and 8 coils and the need  to tune with a lap top the LS motor is  for you and you get to make your own headers motor plates brackets etc  crazy.gif    IF you want simple easy to work on the Gen IV is for you. There is a reason most of all BBC  Jets and Vdrives are Gen IV.Just my .02 Sorry Speed I guess I just Like simple.Look in "parts for sell" section how much LS stuff do you see Now look how much BBC stuff is there    :smile17:

i was looking at a 454 i dont know alot about big blocks did  some 283,400,pont,350,had a 396 ss in school
didnt work with 454 or bigger that is where the big dog shine allways been little dog looked at a blown 383
but dont i need low end power for jets  think.gifwhat would be a good build for a 454 got friend with one in
jet cant keep it together always broke someone went in and built that motor didnt know what they were doing
dumped whole lot hyperformance parts in it called it good not knowing how they will work together  bad bad bad
dont know what you are doing ask ,no shame shame is when you dont ask and let pride make you stupid
and do stupid things like  spend lots of money to build  junk that dont work right,

If you go with a BBC, you can't go wrong.  There is a lot of knowledge that is easy to obtain and lots of parts for them.
For the most part, go as large as you can or want to afford, using good parts.  There is a saying, "THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBIC INCHES" for a reason.  There are exceptions, but only seldom.
Keep in mind that the guys running the lighter motors are still making them as large as they can,  That gets expensive and requires specialized parts.
The LS motor is a good motor for what it is designed to do, but saving 300 lb. in a heavy boat is a small percentage of the over-all weight.
I think the 300 lb. difference may be overstated.  It appears for there to be a 300 lb. difference, it would have to be an all aluminum LS compared to a steel BBC.
All aluminum BBC's are available too, but at a price.
Remember, you don't have to use all the power available with larger motors, but if you decide you want more later, it means changing major parts and that is expensive.
The larger the motor, the easier it is on parts too.

If performance has anything to do with changing motors, keep in mind that no cares if it is a 283 motor or a 600 inch motor, if you are slower.
  :smile17:

performance has a little to do with it i would like some more speed but the boat is not light it is a caddy on water
big part is looks motor has no bling bling and for olds cant buy a lot of bling pump is old first one berkley built
when  i asked about performane parts  the phone went dead they was thinking i was joking so i need to update
the boat for the parts in the pump i am at max hp, and i plan on keeping boat hand down to son and then mabe
grandson, when i get to old for it,i will find good toon and a folding chair :smile16:

i got a  396 block waiting to be put together, .030 dome piston small dome, steel crank couple different hyd cams, one solid, a set of closed chamber oval port heads fresh ready to be put together, no rods sold them to diamond jim. a fresh 468 shrtblock forged domes small, gm rods arp bolts thru out, its a spare motor.
