I have been thinking about this same subject.  I like the teak & think it would be more period correct, but I am leaning towards the red billet ones like Stickman has (sorry man, hate to be a copy cat, lol).

They both look real nice by themselves, but I just can't picture wooden ones looking right on my boat. Judging by your avatar pic, I think teak would look good with that blue. Got a bigger pic of your boat from a different angle, pics always help make decisions.

The look will be a personal preference but one other thing to consider is the extra maintenance to keep up with the teak wood. I have heard a lot of people complain about having to constantly oil and seal the wood to keep it looking good. With the billet ones you should be able to install them and forget them.

D-man....remember, if those red aluminum swim platforms are anodized, they will fade to pink in no time flat.

with any add ons you should check yuour transom structure to see if it will carry the load .. my Kona is 1 1/4" ply ; the Avenger is only 5/8" ... just thinnin' ... it would really suck to climb up and rip the transom off ....

You think so?  I don;t have much experience with anodized stuff. When I was looking at them on Rex's site, they offer them as anodized & Permacoated. Not sure what the Permacoat is, but they are cheaper. Will have to check into that.

Red anodized will always turn pink if in the sun for any length of time.

Good point, definitely something to take into consideration...

Mine is around an 1 1/4"- 1 1/2" thick. They went a little overboard when I had the transom replaced. :cheesy:

I have the full teak platform across the back. Once a year, usually in the spring, I power wash it. Next is the teak cleaner followed by the brightner then finally the oil. About monthly i'll wash it with soap and water the apply another couple coats of oil. That is what is needed to keep it looking nice all summer.

I agree with Crusader here. For some reason the red anodized has a tendency to fade quicker than most and I believe the Permacoat is nothing more than powder coat. I would lean toward the raw anodized aluminum steps if it were me.

I got the red anodized because I'm a cheap ass, had a blown out budget already and REX had em on clearance missing hardware. If they fade they'll get powder coated like everything else. I keep my Pyle covered unless we're on the water so they might last a while. I know they have em in an array of different colors as well as raw ready for powder coat. Could always get a raw set and have em airbrushed to look like teak & then clear coat, now that would be Cool ......

Period correct ..... Had that for 25 years, now is a new era for me. Just sayin'
