Market Drop and our government

Man, I tell you what...I get poorer by the second. Our wonderfull politicians up in washington have mortgaged the middle class, or anyone that had a hope of getting there with this debt plan BS.

Our debt is now MORE than our GDP. If this was a person, they would have to their kids work for years to pay off their debt. Well that is essentially what is happening here. We give and give and give. The Republicans don't want more taxes, the Democrats don't want to touch entitlement programs. And what do they come up with??? Put it off until later. WOW. If you did this at work, you would get FIRED!!!  All they are doing is working for themselves and the votes that keep them in office. We need to vote EVERY incumbent out of office across the board. All the way down to city council. Who loses in this, the AMERICAN PEOPLE. Here is what I would do if I were the DICTATOR of the US. Being a dictator for about 6-8 months or so is the only way to fix this. After my period of dictator ship I would gladly return all things back to free.

Foreign aid will be tied in to our economy. When we do good, then we help. If we are broke, we don't help. If you had 5 bucks to your name why in the hell would you give half of it to someone else.

Welfare benefits would be for everyone for a total of 96 months. After that, DONE.

If you paid into SS, then you get it. Other than that forget it.

Balanced budget across the board.

Congress pay would be slashed and benefits would be reduced to mirror those similar to Armed Forces Reserves. Retirement bennys at 62 and then prorated due to service.

Term limits

Troops on the borders, shoot illegal crossers. Set up safe cities for those looking for a good life and home. They stay there and get processed into our country as new citizens. Criminals go back out. You would have to be in processed.

Crimes against children would be very harsh. Death or life in prison

Prisons and jails would change dramatically.

Personal injury lawyers would become game animals.

I could go on and on.

The best thing we can do is ensure that we are registered to vote and then DO SO. I am personally going to vote for every non politician. IF they are an incumbent, then they do not get my vote.

Off my soap box...for now.

Tax the sh... out of these big corporations or give them the option to hire more people that can pay the taxes. It just might cure a few things. You know I think it all started when we pumped our own gas..... now we check out our own groceries. You know there is never enough help anywhere. If people have jobs they can pay their bills and buy more products. I know when I was working we made a base plus % of sales with bonuses if you hit your goals. Then the bean counters changed things so that we had a small increase of base, lowered the % of sales and increased the bonuses. You say that sounds great, but the company set the goals. I went from selling almost a 1 mil in sales to 1.5 mil in one year and made less money. I also lost my pt help and was working more hours and stores to service. It time for the big dogs to put people back to work. Working people pay bills and buy things.... cars, boats, education homes,Tv and on and on. I hate being on SS but I have no choice. I have paid in and it is my time to collect. I too say invest in can goods and ammo for I don't see changes coming. I got mine.

Unfornately we live in a nation of sheep. We know what the problem is, but don't do anything to change it. I have often asked where do we start, and how do we start. I even thought about writing a book, but it would probably just be full of my rants. Then there is the question of( if I do something, will it effect my family?) I guess we need a William Wallace to get us started.  think.gif

Back in the old days a revolution would happen. People would gather arms and confront the ones in power to get rid of them and get new leaders.

Nowadays, there is enough jail room and information on all of us to make that really hard to do.

To start a movement, first most of us would have to be independently wealthy. I know I don't have the time to start a movement, I have to go to work!

First and foremost we need to vote what is RIGHT FOR THE COUNTRY. I also believe that means all politicians out of office.

It is a sad state of affairs when you do more and get less. As corporate America looks at the balance sheet instead of the people that create it, things will get worse and worse. I do believe that the people that run things should be rewarded, but not at the expense of the ones that are on the front lines getting it done. I don't think taxing big corporations are the answer. All that will do is make them pass along the costs to the consumer and in essence that would be a tax on all of us. There needs to be a two part solution and unfortunately one of the parts is based on the hope that corporate greed does not take over. First, a tariff on out of country goods needs to be imposed. You can still buy your stuff made in China, however it will cost more to get it into this country. Remember the ITC tarriff on Japanese motorcycles over 700cc. That benefited Harley Davidson and look at them today. This encourages products made in America. The second part is corporations need to pay enough to so that people can live in this country. I do not advocate someone making 30 bucks an hour for pushing a button, but people need a decent wage for a honest days work. What happens today is that companies maximize profits at the expense of the workers. When they realize that people are our greatest resource and when they are taken care of, then they take care of the caretaker.

I guess another suggestion would be - cut up those credit cards, and get back to a cash based society. Credit cards are trouble, if you don't have the money for it, you don't get it! :smile30:

It has been a slow process, happening right under peoples noses for years. It has finally gotten to the point where its not hidden any longer & people are wondering wtf happened. Admittedly, I didn't pay attention to anything political or having to do with the govt. for a long time. Too busy screwing off, having fun, having that "that stuff don't concern me" attitude. Last couple of years I have sure changed my outlook, lol... I sometimes wonder how "normal" things can return to or if it we'll at least be able to stop the bleeding, so to speak.

I also sometimes wonder if it wouldn't be better for the bottom to just fall out, ya know? Just hit bottom so we can get back to building ourselves up. Not that I want to see the our nation fail, but for the shit to hit the fan so the asshats running the machine can get run out & get some REAL leaders back in control. I dunno... Things keep going like they are going, society in general failing sure does seem like a possibility more & more these days.  Maybe that is what it will take to bring about some of that "change you can believe" in....

Yup, been there with the credit cards... I got over my head with a couple I had & then couldn't get out from under them didn't seem to matter how much extra I paid on them. Finally was able to get a loan, paid off the cards & canceled them, along with the other ones I had that I wasn't even using. No more impulse buying for me, if I don't have the cash on hand then I don't make the purchase. Its to the point now where I'm pretty much the exact opposite of how I used to behave concerning buying stuff. I pretty much have to talk myself into spending any kind of cash unless its on something I just flat out absolutely have to have, lol... :cheesy:

You know, that might be what it takes for people to really see what is going on. I am going to make sure I have enough cash on hand and also have plenty of ammo to keep what I have. I can actually see where people in their neighborhoods set up armed guards to let residents in and keep the bad out type of thing. Within that neighborhood will spring up the things that we need and we will start all over again...Might be what it takes. Interesting observation to say the least and could be a spot on prediction as well.

Questions, anyone?!?

If the US Government was a family, they would be making $58,000 a year, spend $75,000 a year, & are $327,000 in credit card debt. They are currently proposing BIG spending cuts to reduce their spending to $72,000 a year. These are the actual proportions of the federal budget & debt, reduced to a level that we can understand. -
