also, im guessing i can just put the push/pull cable right to my turn fin like the jetovator, i have a 12jf pump, it works nothing like the conversion pictures all over the internet.i also found that i can buy the replacement motor at napa because it is stocked as a window motor for $30. i may try that first.

well i got the jetovator working like brand new, and adjusted my ride plate from way down to even with the hull, i gained some speed and gotthe boatout of the water more but only saw 4200rpm,

then something locked up, i think it may be the front pump bearing, i had great oil pressure and cold temperature, all of a sudden i lost 1000 rpms and it felt like it was straining, i backed of of it and it locked, when i got home i pulled the plugs and the bowl and it still has resistance, if i were to put the plugs back in it would lock solid again, im pulling the motor tomorrow to see if it is an engine problem or a pump problem,im hoping its just the shaft bearing because it was running so good before. if not then it seized the rings for no reason at all

if the motor is messed up im going to buy a 427 crank and a cam and build a decently hot 427.

found where the impellor was rubbing the rubber for the wear ring, could this stop it,? i wouldnt think so. it is rubber and there are no marks on the wear ring or impeller.

yes and in most cases the front bearing is out and lets the impeller move forward  into the wear ring.

thanks! thats exactly what i think is happening, although people on pb think its my motor, but using what i know nd how it happened, i would agree with your opinion. but my wear ring and impeller has no marks from making contact, only a shiny spot where the ruber touched the impeller. could just that rubber stop it?

you wont see the real damage until you pull the impeller.  :smile30:

i did, there isnt any damage in the wear ring area,if i remember correctly it had more clearance though last time i had the bowl off. also it had a shuddering vibration thing going on at idle sitting still that would go away with throttle. im thinking the front bearing went out and its pressing against the bearing cap, and i just happen to have had enough clearance to not rip it all to pieces.

At the very least you need to pull the drive shaft and isolate the problem to the pump or the engine.  Unless you get the drive shaft out and diagnose a seized bearing in the front of the pump, you may save yourself a lot of damage by pulling the engine and inspecting it.  It's not that hard to pull an engine out of a jet boat.  If it is a 3 point mount it may be easier to pull the motor than to pull the drive shaft.  Sorry to hear your having issues.  Hopefully you caught it before major damage.

mine did same thing at Tawokoni cruising along just fine then pull down then locked ... it was impeller galling up in the wear ring from nicks knocked into the wear ring.

i thought it was that but mine still look brand new, i pulled the rear main bearing because everybody says it goes bad first, it looked fine, after a compression test and testing all other possibilities i pulled the res of the bearings and the middle 3 were galled, not bad but i guess just enough to bog the motor when it got hot and to let go a little when it cooled down, i think i lost the pump but let out in time to not do serios damage. im about to do a complete rebuild/upgrade to it.

So how is the project going?  Hope all is well with it.

its creeping along, i have a 468 block and crank freshly machined, roller rockers, 3/8 pushrods and some large oval port heads,im pinching pennys to get a cam off of this site and a set of dome pistons, bought an engagment ring 2 weeks ago so that put a damper on the funds for a few weeks.if my side paint work picks up itll go together alot faster.

Congrats on the ring I understand how that can hamper boat funds, family life does tend to get in the way sometimes.  Good luck on the paint jobs.

update:

i have the hull in the air and shaved the bow rail and all other not needed holes, reconfiguring the dash, i build a rear seat frame and hatch cover that will be covered soon, the shortblock is built and im waiting on the heads to come back so i can finish putting the motor together. it will get paint in the meantime.
