Machine Shop prices

It's been awhile since I had machine work done, so I may be shocked at the answer I get, but here goes.  What does it cost to have a crank, that has had one bearing spun on it, to be turned 10 and does it need to be rebalanced?  If so what is the going rate for that?

To turn the crank however much it needs to be cut will run around 125.00 plus brgs. and no it will not have to be rebalanced. Only needs to be rebalanced if you change rods or piston combo :smile17:

Thank God, A friend of mine was telling me it would cost $600.00 for the crank to be turned, balanced and polished.  I thought that sounded outrageous.

Yeah Duane, I was hoping he was way wrong.  Now I'm not so discouraged to put the Chevrolet back together

You need to call Flannakin Cranks in Houston. They do them for allot of the local machine shops.

Don't know yet, by the time I get it built, something will turn up.  Randall says he has a couple of projects he is looking at.  If he passes I may pick one of them. My buddy wants aTX-19 ,so we will see.

that's nuts!

So do you use anybody local for machine work? I'm not even sure who is still around anymore. Calvin (Motor Machine) is still doing it I believe, but not full time. Kind of does it more as side work. He lives out by me in Telferner now, has a little shop there. He did the machine work on my 460 when I was goin through it.

He did a good job & all, but it nice to know if there are options available...
