OK here is the fun filled story, no I will not proof it.  When we left Havasu I was not feeling well and James started driving.  We switched when he got tired and I took over (In El Paso).  Not feeling so hot I did not last long, therefore he did not get all the rest he needed.  We went through Fort Stockton (no man's land)and the fuel gauge read 90 miles to empty so James thought we had plenty to get to Ozona and he did not want to wake me yet so he kept on trucking.  He said the gauge took a big jump as he went.  We were several miles out when it went real low and did not know if he should turn back or keep on.  As you know there are not a lot of choices out there.  We were several miles from Ozona and it read 0 to empty.  We did not make it.  It was around 3:00 in the morning.  According to James's phone it said we were 6.9 miles to Ozona (I think it lied also).  I grabbed a can and a pin light flash light and took off.  I got out of sight of the warning light flashing and was not having fun.  Did not feel good, bad knee, bad ankle, and pulled groin. I would not turn my light on unless a car was coming because I did not want to get hit and wanted to save battery.  I was tooling along when I heard something, turned the light on it and there stood a big 'ol buck about 12' from me.  Not real sure who scared who the worse.  I needed to be attacked from a scared deer.  He ran off.  I then decided I needed to leave the light on.  Then I got to see all the dead animals on the side of the road.  Your mind starts to wonder if there is an animal out there that is hungry, or a snake that is pissed off, you know I cannot run. "Are we having fun yet" During this time about 15 cars and trucks have passed so I made up my mind I will walk the whole way.  I got where I could see lights of the town and was on the down hill slide, then I got to thinking how far I had walked and how heavy the fuel would be on the return.  About that time a 18 wheeler passed and stopped to help.  He stopped about a 1/8 of a mile in front of me and started to back.  Not sure what happened but he jack-knifed his truck across both lanes of traffic.  I thought oh crap what is wrong with this dude is he drunk.  He was pulled up and straight when I got to him.  He was out of the truck checking for damage.  Anyway I was desperate and jumped in.  He was a cool guy named Bobby from Malaysia we had a little language barrier but got by.  We got to town and could not find a station open.  He stayed with me until we found one.  I told him thank you and said I know you need to be on your way.  He said not way would he have me walk that far back carrying fuel.  Man was I appreciative.  He took me back, I tried to pay him and he would not let me.  I said at least let me give you enough for a meal and I gave him $20.  OK my novel is over and trust me I just gave you the short version. I am tired all over again.

Don't you love walking late at nite with no other options. Mite be a good time for a spare can full of diesel just in case there is a part two to this story! Those auxiliary tanks are also nice when setting up a tow rig for those long hauls! :smile16: Glad you found a trucker, or I should say glad a trucker found you! :smile30:

I doubt it.  Very cool place, just not set up well for drag boats at all.  Right down the river in Parker is a whole different animal.  I hope they move it there.  The fan base is the best I have been to though.
