Jetboat noob.

Hi all, My name is Travis. I live in Amarillo and have been boating my whole life. I own 3 jet skiis ( a 92 kawasaki 650sx, 96 seadoo spx, and a 97 polaris slt750), and just recently purchased a 74 Sleekcraft Monterey. I will be using this forum to maybe gain some knowledge on what needs to be done with my boat to make it a reliable little boat that will pull a skier. thank you all for your future help.

Welcome to THB. I have seen pics here & there of a Monterey, but don't believe anybody here on the boards has one that I know of. By all means, post up some pics when you get a chance. :cool:

Here is my Monterey.

when i bought this boat, it was cold, and windy, and i had driven 3 hrs just to see it in the middle of the night. looked complete, and fired right up, so i purchased it on the spot and took it home. the 1st trip to the water the boat didnt even get up on plane and just choked out... so i bought the edelbrock intake and carb, and a new distributor, replaced all the pluggs and put in a new battery.

the 2nd time i took it out it got up on plane and started speeding up, and then the throttle braket broke.

3rd trip gets up to 30-35 mph in fairly high winds. until somthing gets wet and boat shuts off.

4th trip gets up to about 30-35 starts "bogging at 3/4-4/4 throttle. gets wet and quits working.

Welcome to the sight.  Looks like it will be a fun little boat, once you get the probs worked out with it.

Good lookin boat!

I saw on your other thread about water bein in the boat & getting slung around by the flywheel. There shouldn't be that much water in the boat. Friend of mine ran one like that & he never had that issue? Have you let it sit in the water & see if you have any leaks anywhere?

Yep... there would be several places for water to make its way into the boat. I saw where Roger told him on his other post to fill the bilge with water & see if he has any leaks, which is a good idea but he has already taken the transom adapter off so that ain't gonna work.

Could be as simple as a loose drain plug. I know somebody that happened to once.  :angel: :grin:

when he puts it back together, he may solve the leak also  think.gif

Good Looking boat now you just have to get out with the group and meet up ot one of the events or get togethers sometime.  If you need any help just ask everyone here is super friendly.  (Mostly just have to be warey of a few)
