Gel Coat?

Looking to get my boat gel coated. Currently the clear coat is peeling and the rest is faded. Thinking of getting it gel coated or is there other suggestions Thanks  :smile12:

sure it does not have clear coat?( automotive) I do not think they used a clear coat laying up the molds? gelcoat ?? :huh:

they do not use clear in the mold with gel it is strictly gel.I just got a price quote to regel a customers boat of 9500.00 .PAINT it it is a lot less work gel does not come out flat there is a ton of sanding and buffing ( labor ) will kill you.It can be done but you are gonna pay$$$$

If you like the colors on the boat, the fading is no problem.

Wet sand the boat with some 400 then shoot a couple or more coats of clear on it and it will look like new.

I did this on an old Youngblood I had and it looked great.

A gallon of clear and reducer will only set you back about 400 bucks.

I can get rubber seal clear to the door for 178.00. I think the boat as been cleared once before....We can take care of your refinish needs...I need to pay for the new boat... :smile13:

No, you might get some clear to flow in the cracks but not likely.. just a couple of cents worth..

So what is the best way to get rid of stress cracks?

They do use clear in the molds on gelcoat.  Usually the lay a couple of coats of clear with UV inhibitor, then they lay your pen lines, then the graphics or color, then black gel coat.  The black is to show any air bubbles when they start to lay the glass.  I have a west coast custom boat made by Ultra.  The gel coat and graphics are incredible.
