I have to admit, I've had pretty good luck with Fords... But all of mine are old school gas motors.. Have rebuilt 325hp 302 in my van ( switched to carb ), had a 460 that ran like a top in my Sleekcraft years ago... My dad has a 02' diesel and no problems, yet.... But only 45k miles on it.....
You guys drive Dodge's our there??? I've had a few Cummins motors and love em!!! Trannys are the weak link (autos) for Dodge's thou in my experience.. But both my 1 ton dually 4x4's got almost 22 mpg constantly and no real issues except a lift pump....

You must like seeing mechanics on a regular basis.  A friend of mine has one.  It just got out of the shop after spending $4K on the transmission....

Well a little update on my piece of ^&&#$#$# Ford. I need a long block now  :smile15: :smile15: :smile15: Only $14,000.  I am not going to do it.  Ford has me my nads.  They will take it in trade so I guess I have to eat my words and buy another one of the products.  :smile15: :smile15: :smile15:.  Can ya tell I am not real happy at the moment.  :smile15: :smile15: :smile15:

a Long Block WTF??  That's just ridiculous.  Why the hell would you need to replace the engine at 170k?  what did they say was wrong with it?  They probably just want to fix it easy and resell it for top dollar and screw you on the bottom end.

Agreed 1000000000000%!!!!!!

You need to go inspect the damage yourself!  Make sure they're not trying to pull a fast one.  Seriously!!!

That's kind of what I'm thinking! They have some parts changers working not mechanics. Had to go look at an Explorer for a customer of mine once. It was sitting at a Ford dealership and they told him they took the heads off the motor, and the cylinders were scared up from a blown head gasket. I said it didn't jive in my book, so I went with him to look. The only thing they had off the motor was the upper intake plenum. The look on the service writers face when we walked in his office was priceless. Needless to say they claimed a break down in communication and fixed his ride for free! think.gif :smile27:

I has a chip in a cylinder on the top and damage low, one head is gone. I saw it myself.  yep it is toast.

Hate to say this but this happens more often than not.  You have the right to inspect and keep every old part they remove and replace on your vehicle.  After all your paying for the new part and sometimes the old one isn't broke.

I would go see what state of tear down it is in.  I dang sure wish you were here I got a guy that would take care of you Henry.  A good friend and straight shooter and works at the Ford dealer service dept.  He is the one that told me about the Head bolts being the problem and to get the studs.

No matter what I do I would have more money in it than the truck would be worth, no warranties or guarantee it would hold together long.  The best thing for me to do is cry and then buy a new one. I saw the damage myself.  I cannot believe it was running with the shape of that one head.

If its one cylinder a sleeve and it should be good.
On the head dang I cant see any reason you should have a head that's gone at that mileage on these motors.

At least you wont be getting a truck with the same motor in it now.

You could always do like I said before take the motor from Cowboys and put it in this truck.  would run forever, or give this one to cowboy after swapping in the motor and just go get you a new one that you want.

Hey Henery why dont you just go get it and find a totaled out explore. Then buy that motor complete and install it yourself or have someone eles do it besides FORD house.    My brother just bought a 2002 F 250 Fx4 crew cab lariat edt.  for 3200.00 bucks  that was at a ford dealership it was a stolen recovery from INS company.  Ford told him and INS compony the motor was blown up because it wouldnt turn over.  But this tells you how smart they are it takes BOTH BATTERY to be fully charged to cranked a 7.3 and only one was half charged. crazy.gif  made my brothers day he took it home put two new battery in it bought wheels and tires turned around and sold it for 8000.00 it RAN like a champ..
