divertor ?

OK so i was at the river on Friday turkey run and i lost all the divertor trim! i left it alone and had fun with no issue! today i looked at the problem and found two of the three stainless bolts broke out of the back of the divertor were the bracket bolts up! my Q is i have tore up three bits and starting to tear up the alam. How can i get these bolts out with out tearing up the divertor :smile21: let me remind you they are stainless (hard) with lock thread (blue) and its painted candy apple red! crazy.gif

Also on recent review i pulled the imply. and found that the nut had loosened up ( took it off with my hand) and scared the outer ring on the imply might be why i have been noticing a 10 mph loss!  think.gif crazy.gif

good luck with those bolts mike i have broke one taking an old diverter apart tried to get it out and  well i left it, think i found my solution to that problem i bought a new diverter crazy.gif

Been at it all day with a brake hear and there and no luck! even heated it a little and turned one a bit and then nothing! im heading down that road for a new one though! just dont like giving up!

do you have any bolt sticking out,  that you can grind a slot in,  then use a hammer driver  :smile21: think.gif

then the only suggestion, i have, is set it up under a drill press and go to drilling,  but take a punch and make sure your bit stays in the center,  good luck with it.

You can drill them out what ever way you can.
Then clean up the holes with a big bit and have them welded up.
Then redrill and retap the holes.
A lot of work, but way cheaper than buying a new setup.
If you are in the Houston area the place to get the welding done is Lone Star Metal Werx.
Randy Porter can weld anything to perfection.

I drill in stainless almost everyday. The only way is with a very good bit for drilling in stainless. Turn it very slow and use oil. Good luck!

OK Just finished! went through a few bits sharpend a few and finally made it through lots of Magic oil! then yes i cleaned them up with a bigger bit then re-taped them to 5/16 18 thread a little bit heavy duty so that way it might not brake so easy! then re flush mounted the holes! looks good!  jump.gif jump.gif

Thanks for all the help and Advise! :smile16:

Gald to hear you got it.  Ive had the same problems before, and its a pain in the @ss no matter how you try to approach it!  I have also had Randy do some work for me.  I cracked a swingarm in half on one of my motocross bikes, and had a reputable aluminum shop weld it up for me.  It lasted for 5 races, and the cracks started running again.  Took it to Randy, and he grount all the old weld out, and laid down some aluminum work on it that looked so good I didnt grind it.

Ive got 2 seasons on the bike sense then without a problem.
