Lol...ya, I'm a little paranoid at this point....especially after three engine pulls in as many weeks...... I've learned that oil pressure is my friend!

Great news Cliff,  I' should be putting my new 460 together on my break Aug 16 thru 29.  I'll have plan B at Somerville for Rockin the Cove, and hopefully some water testing the following week.  How long  do I run the breakin, Zinc additive.  I think you ran 3 hours and adjusted the RPM between 3200 and 3500, with an occasional stab of the gas?

That's exactly correct Jim. That's what Wayne Calvert himself told me to do after the cam is broke in. We cruised around for about three hours total yesterday at 32-3400 rpms with a few minutes at 4k and a stab or two up to about 5100rpms. I didn't hold the rpms at 5100 very long at all.

Thanks, maybe this time, since all my parts are NEW, I wont throw a rod through the side of the block, trying to set the timing.

The lake test went well. The exhaust logs are a bear to keep tight enough to prevent exhaust leaks at the headers. I think I'm going to take the logs off in the fall and have them machined flat.

I put about three hours on the motor yesterday just cruising around the lake at about 3200-3400 rpms with an occasional stab on the throttle. The oil pressure was right at 80 psi when I first started the motor cold and after a while it dropped to just over 40psi once warmed up. I'm running the Joe Gibbs performance break in oil....30w. My plan is to drain the oil on Wednesday and replace with the Valvoline VR-1 50w.

once you put that 50 weight in it your oil pressure will defiantly come up, i wouldnt be surprised after it warms up if it dont run around 70 lbs @ cruising speed and prolly around 40 @ idle

Thanks David.

Fixed the anchor and nav lights this afternoon so the Crusader is now officially re-certified to resume covert night operations once again!!

Thanks Jasson...

Changing the oil from the break in oil to VR-1 20w-50 tonight before dropping her in the water for our weekly Wednesday night fun at Collin park.

While knocking on wood, I'm glad that the boat is ready to attend this weeks last concert on Hubbard for 2012, Tawak on Saturday, Okmulgee boat bash on August 11, and the 2nd annual Tawak Hot Boat regatta in October......at least I was able to salvage part of the season.

I fear adding up my receipts for the whole Crusader project.....sometimes being ignorant to the true dollar figure of something is the best course of action to take.....fortunately I don't have a wife nagging me about how much this thing cost....... the only nagging I get from a female is my GF asking when we are going back out on the Crusader again....I can handle that kind of nagging. Lol. Brown chicken, brown cow!!!

Cliff don't add it up till you get ready to sell it.

That might be awhile....My 10 1/2 year old son Jacob already has first dibs on it when I kick the bucket...according to him it'll be soon....Lord I hope not! I want to get at least a full season or two out of the Crusader before that happens. Lol.
