But he is putting the Ford back in , so I fear he has more heartbreak to come . I have owned them and It's not a matter of if they will break , but when .

Just curious.. but how long does an engine need to run to be considered a success? Then if/when something does happen, its just an accident or normal wear & tear kinda failure... Not just a Ford, but any of them. I realize it will just be your opinion & not fact, but you throw that line out there quite a bit while not ever having anything to back it up with. Is that why you are taking so long to finish yours? If you leave it unfinished you can safely say that it never broke down on ya? lol
IMHO, It has to run through the break-in oil interval to be a success, if nothing major pops up during the break-in period then "success!" roll on!

250 - 300 miles

4 - 5 Hrs.

Randy, over at Calverts, called me this afternoon and asked what type of break in oil I used in the motor. I told him it was the Joe Gibbs break in oil that they sell at the shop.....he went onto say how relieved he was that I used that stuff....and mentioned how many bottom ends come into his shop for repair where the owner used the Royal Purple. In his opinion, that stuff should be off the market and NEVER used in a motor......as he's seen more failures using it than any other oil out there.

His words, not mine.

Also, he said the damage looks very minor and that I should get away with minimum $$ investment. They will back the short block that they are assembling for me.

Ya, I think I got lucky on this one. I'll know more in the next few days as the surgery and reconstruction proceed further....I might just get a few days on the lake this summer with the Crusader after-all.

I definitely want to see it at Tawak in the fall, but I think you should be able to get it going here fairly shortly.  All it takes is a little money out of the kids college funds.

You'll only see her beached during the day at Tawak......she runs covertly at night.....

Here's an email from Calverts.

Hey Cliff,

Good news. No major damage to your engine. Looks like a new set if bearings should take care of it.

good to hear the good news,  Crusader,  nothing like having a set back when it comes to things like this,  fortunately it turned out to be minor

Calverts just called and said that they are polishing the crank, new bearings and oil pump. Wayne said I don't need a high volume oil pump so we are just putting a new stock pump on it. He also said the lifters should be fine and to not replace them.
