Cliff has a little 5qt pan with a tiny filter. So does my motor.

Damm sorry to hear Cliff let me know if there's anything I can do to help. My ford boat I have always had to run straight vr1 50 just to hold good oil pressure.

So whats the verdict?  :smile21:

Still 15psi but he only ran it for a couple of seconds. The oil galleys are probably still full of old oil. We're gonna pull the motor out in the morning.  We'll pull the dizzy and crank the pump with a drill to see how tight it is then pop the pan and see that oil pump is all mounted tight with the gasket still in. After that look at a the main bearings first then the rods checking for unusual wear and that none are spun.

At least it ran long enough to get nominates for BOTM  :smile19: I think that might be a record for a Ford motor  think.gif I told you to get an LS instead of throwing good money after bad on the Ford  :smile30:

Don't know what's going on here. All the rod bearing and main bearings are wiped. We found some extremely small metal fragments in the oil pan. We look at the rod bearings and they appear to be the wrong bearings as they are not beveled on one side to match the crank. The motor is going back to Wayne Calverts in Denton on Tuesday to let them figure this shit out. They're the one who sold me these bearings  ecause of their recomendation.

I really think bearings and take it to Calvert to assemble and make sure the rods are in right and you are probably good to go.  Worst case you need to have the crank turned to put the radius back into the journal shoulder.  I believe all your hard parts are fine.  Did you take a pic of the other rod bearing or the main that was showing copper?

My money is on that the block was machined but never assembly prepped. IE the motor had machine slag all up in it. Take the short block to Calverts. If it's gonna be a while we'll drop my other motor in.

so your saying the block was not washed and flushed with detergent or solvent prior to assembly?  That was the original builders responsibility, not Calvert

Cliff, what's the part numbers on the bearings....I'll look them up

Not trying to butt in but............. It was my business in selling engine parts for 30 years,  that machine shops do the work requested of them. They do not normally clean, flush and prep for final build unless requested and your charged for it.  Anytime I get a block back I is washed with solvent based cleaners, then detergent...... use stiff bristle brush in cyls. and then use pressure washer in ll oil ports....... and stiff round brushed in holes in crankshaft.....Then use compressed air to blow out all galleys and passages.

Maybe this was done??

What bearing number did Calvert sell you?  Clevite , Federl Mogul or King?  Post number and I will be more than happy to take a look see for you.

I wish you well as that is such a pretty boat.  It needs to run equal to as pretty as it is!!
