I like the idea of cutting holes and bolting through the floor like Matt suggested.  No way I would use lag bolts to bolt the motor down. But the factory setup will be fine for motor mounts, and it will be alot cheaper than trying to find a four point setup and making it fit your boat.

The pull out motor I got in Michigan for my boat had the motor mounts and the velvet drive mounts in with Lag bolts but they were 1/2" thick and 6" long bolted into mahogany 2x8 stringers.  My boat has a 1/4" steel plate screwed and glassed in above the stringer and the motor mounts bolt to that.  I don't see why you couldn't through bolt in a piece of angle iron or aluminum then glass over it put in your full floor and then bolt to that your mounts I would think it would work and still look fairly stock and be safe.

I have read where people used an icepick (remember those, lol) to test for bad wood in stringers, etc... but I would be interested to hear what he did as well. As long as it doesn't involve that "special" friend of his, lol...

On a unrelated note... Matt, you looking to buy an Eliminator Mojave at one time I believe? Still are, or is the Ambassador filling that need.

Everytime I think of icepick I think of Basic Instinct man that wouldnt be a good way to go sorry carry on! :smile30:

Thats true, but every time I think of Basic Instinct I think of Sharon Stone showin off her hoo-ha, so it works out ok... :grin:

Just hit it with a hammer and if it sounds solid roll with it. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Something the Army NEVER does. LOL

I'm going to the lumber yard at lunch to buy a sheet of marine plywood for the deck and some 2x6's for the stringers. What's a good quality wood / hardwood i could use for the stringers??? I don't want to use the typical pine 2x6 you can get at Home Depot.

I'm not going to install a floor in the engine compartment just yet as I think we are going to fabricate a cradle type three point type motor mounts and they'll be through bolted through the stringers. Once the motor is installed, I'll go ahead and install a floor in the engine compartment with the motor mount area boxed out in a similar fashion depicted in James engine compartment in an earlier picture of this thread.

Phew, nothing is cheap for a boat....and I've just now got started. So far the investment to date is:

Set of D0VE-C heads =                      $250
4'x8' sheet of Marine grade plywood =  $99.95 (ea)
2 2"x6" 8' long peices of spruce wood = $8.00
1 gallon of West marine Epoxy resin =    $100
various fiberglass supplies =                $45
Timing set=                                      $63.55

Totaling almost $500 and the only thing completed so far is the engine removal and tear-down.

I'm not even including the gas $ I've spent in my truck traveling around working and gathering supplies or my time.

It's a labor of love!

We have all felt your pain.  I just got fuel for the Baker $300 and that can be gone in an afternoon easy.  Ya got to love this hot boat stuff.
