Crusader Project

Okay, I just ordered it....should be here in about four days.

The block, heads, pistons etc are actually going to go to another shop in Denton.... Wayne Calvert. This is a guy that Bobby recommended as well as Brian for their reputation as a quality shop. I think the motor will be back from the shop in three weeks.....

I'll once again have to move my project completion date to the right......and I'll also provide some slack time in there as well....so now I'm shooting to have the project completed by Memorial day weekend 2012. I think that's a more realistic completion date considering what has transpired over the past few days with set-backs etc.

The motor mounts on the BBF were directly bolted to the floor and stringers.......in a kind of weird fashion. I don't want to reinstall the motor back into the boat the way it was. So, not knowing my options, how are the motors mounted in other cruisers on this forum? Brian was telling me that he could fabricated two new mounts and then lag bolt the mounts right into the new stringers....however I'm kind of weary about using lag bolts as in time, they'll work their way loose.

Options?

either a rail kit, a standard 4 pt. set up, or a 3 point set up is about all I can think of.

Rail kit probably gonna be the most expensive unless you fab one up yourself. Mine is a 4 pt.

I will look & see if I have any pics of mine. In the meantime, look at the engine pics in Widetrack's TX build thread. I'm not sure if thats an honest to goodness rail kit or something he fabbed up, but that is what one would look like I imagine.

A four point is similar to a rail mount system, just the 4 mounting blocks are bolted to the stringer instead of a rail, which is bolted on the stringer...

K.I.S.S.....  Keep It Simple Stupid...

Put it back the way it was. It lasted 30 something years that way.

BOTH of my boats use three point mounts. There is a spot on the stringers that's not just flat across. Bolts run THROUGH the stringer there.

you have one problem,  that I can see from pics you post,  trying to use a regular set up like most jets are using,  yours  has the floor glassed onto the stringers,  now if you are replacing stringers and plan on not glassing the floor back to the stringers then you have many choices,  from 3 point mount to a four point mount,  and of course,  you originally,  if memory serves correctly had a three point,  now all you will need to do is switch to building a cradle, getting truck motor mounts and installing,  or  the rail kit, and installing it with the 4 point,  or you can do the 4 point mounted to the stringers.... there is no way in hell i would use lag screws/bolts...  that's another nickles worth....  :smile16:

Here's what KONA's talking about. NOT glassing the stringers all the way to the floor with the pockets there. Both my boats are like this and use three point mounts. See how the motor mounts bolts thru the stringer? You have to punch a hole thru the bottom of the pocket also so it doesn't fill with water.
