He owns Certified Automotive Machine.  Hes old school, and used to build a number of extreme high horsepower race boat motors.  He also did the bottom end on my LSX Stroker motor.  Great guy to have in the fam!!!!

The ford worked fine as a motor. It probably had that compression problem since he has had it and still pulled a few Chevys in. Lol! If were mine I would put a good set of heads on it and let the goodtimes roll. Depending on that one cylinder since I haven't seen it.

i'm with stu,  you got it apart,  cheaper to do it right, now,  then tear it apart again later,    :smile30:

i'd take the whole thing to a machine shop,  have them mic the hole thing and then they could tell you what you need done,  some times it's not as bad as you may think,  and sometimes it is,  and then you will catch it before it cost you both legs... back to offerring my nickles worth.....  :smile27:

As much as I hate to agree with Kona , he is right . If you don't freshen it up now it might cost alot more later if it blows up for real .

X3 on this one have brian tear it down completely, mic it and then report back especially on that one cylinder.  Better to know its done right now than have to redo it later cause you were in a hurry to get it back on the water.  I used to have to tear down my 383 in my cuda almost nightly working on it or swapping heads was sure glad I had steel shim head gaskets I could clean and recoat on that thing or it would have cost me a fortune in head gaskets.  It did get tiring trying to just keep it running.

I'm interested in seeing the top ring on the cylinder that had low pressure also, or maybe they forgot the put the second ring on it when it was built!!

Thanks Rick.

Looks like I found some D0VE heads and will get them to the machine shop sometime next week for some SS valves and head work.

Also, the scarring on #1 is bad enough that the cylinder will need to be sleeved.....so the question as to whether or not I should redo the entire motor has been answered....yes, all the bearings and rings will be new.

Congrats on the score and on the rest at least now you know.  Have you looked at what the cost would be to go oversize versus sleeving the one cylinder?  I know last time I was looking at Sleeves it was dam expensive and was cheaper to go 30 over and buy new pistons.
