No new progress to report although hopefully will have some news after this weekend.
I did however dig up some more info on Chrysler Boats and this model in particular.  Here is a little bit of the info I found.

Got a delivery yesterday.





Its a 96 360 Magnum from a Dodge 3/4 ton truck has 266k miles on it and looks like everything gasket was leaking oil.  Guy said it was smoking while running so most likely needs a rering will find out once its torn down and cleaned up.  Will replace the rings and bearings with new along with new gaskets.  Hone the cylinders then decide whether to go with the fuel injection or replace the manifold and put the carb I have on the other motor. 

What do you all think?  I have a DIY ECU that I have stored away that I haven't used yet that I can program or get a Dodge ECU and reprogram it.  The intake is $170 so it will probably cost more that way than the ECU route but will be easier to get tuned and up and running.

BTW made the deal for this for $100 my brother in law lives about 40 minutes from this guy and since my brother in law owed me some money he volunteered to get it for me and drop it off since he had a trip down here over the weekend.  Now to tear it down and order parts.

I scraped it down enough to make sure the year and engine size.  Will take all the automotive parts and send them over to my parents house as spares for their dodge truck.

Personally I would carb it and get it to the lake.  The fuel injection adds several more pieces to the puzzle.  Mainly the fuel system.  You may get it to the lake and find it goes straight to the bottom.  Put it together with a carb and see how it does.  Save the fuel injection for a winter project.

X3 if you want to be on the water quickly. I'd probably be running by now if I went with a carb setup, but EFI is going to be cool. Realize that I've been working on mine since NOVEMBER!!

Now to tell the wife why I have to spend another $168 on the new motor to get the intake.  Maybe I can troll some of the mopar boards and get one pretty cheap.  Will have to keep and eye out or maybe make and adapter to go from the stock intake to a carbed intake from the throttlebody I wonder how well that would work.  Ideas and decisions it never ends.

She gives me crap about every penny I spend.  Of course I am also hard on myself making sure I get the most bang for my buck and do a lot of my own work.  She handles all the bills that's her job its my job to bring in the money.  We have it out every once in a while when I get frustrated cause I don't get to spend any of it on me.

She has no concept of what it costs and when I volunteered to show her my budget which is very realistic she didn't want to see it.  her concept is I spend $100 on the motor why do I need to spend $168 on one part for the motor.  She already knows that I need to spend $200 for the re-ring kit with bearings and gaskets.  I thought that would be less but its been a while since I rebuilt a complete V8 motor.  I used to do it almost weekly when I was racing.  Last motor I built was about 6 years ago and was a turbo 4 banger so I knew parts were a little higher on price.

nothing wrong with the checks and balances,  CJ,  Kona Girl is so into these boats that if i want to do something, or buy something ,  she's like yeah lets do it, lets build it,  lets buy it,  so then i have to stop rethink,  and then say well maybe we should wait  crazy.gif

Lol maybe that's part of my problem this is my sickness and not hers.  She has never been into my speed freak nature, not my race cr, not my motorcycle, and not my boat.  She is afraid of the water cause she can't swim.  She went out on our old trihull once but wouldn't ever get on a tube.  We used to lazy river tube down the guadalupe and comal rivers and she was okay so its not a paralyzing fear its just more of a uncomfortable fear.  I have given up so many of my passions for my wife and family I have to have something that's me and keeps me sane and I think she realizes that cause I almost completely lost it one time so she tolerates me and my crazy passions.

One thing is she is as stubborn as I am almost cause I usually end up winning or I end up working more is that really winning?

The only thing she knew on my budget was $200 for a junkyard motor.  What she doesn't realize that was a long block motor only not all the accessories like carb, alternator, waterpump, starter, intake, etc.  My budget for the complete running motor was around $1k and right now I am still below that even with the reverse rotation motor sitting next to the boat that will be an anchor if I can't find someone who needs it.

I'm very fortunate. As long as my wife can get her hair and nails done with "our money", I get to blow my entire retirement check from the Army on toys.

Sometimes I regret not joining the army like I always wanted to be like my uncle but then I wouldn't have met my wife or have my wonderful kids.  At times I regret my decisions I have made but then when I look back I wouldn't be where I am now with what I do have if I hadn't made those decisions because everything led to the next and so forth and I can't see how it would have happened the same had it been different.

Well one thing I would say she wants you to do is keep fixing those appliances though.

I think my wife and I also see things differently because she is the baby of her family and I am the oldest in mine.  I am also the oldest grandchild so I really have had a different view.

Well thats part of the problem right there. She's not into it & guessing she has no concept of what its all about so of course she is gonna think its foolish or whatever. It sounds like its gonna be an uphill battle for you, but I'd imagine once that boat is running & you & the family go out for an afternoon on the lake, cruise around, swim/float, hang out, etc. it will be a different story after that.

Its not a cheap hobby by any means, but there is also no reason that it has to drain yer bank acct or run up a credit card. I'm living proof of that. :wink:

Dman I am with you on all of that.  I am used to low bucking it but not cutting corners on safety.  I ran a 12 second car in bracket racing for years on low bucks.  It was a 68 Barracuda with a built 383.  I had a set of heads I home ported that if I had bought would have cost me over a grand.  I still have that motor but not the car.  I rebuilt all my own transmissions, motors, rear ends, front ends and sheetmetal.  I had waited for a while in putting in a driveshaft loop in figured it wasn't enough torque or fast enough to worry about it then my sister drive the car and the driveshaft dropped out leaving a stop sign because the front yoke broke and that was it the next thing I put in was the loop.  No damage cause she wasn't rolling along but still an issue.  I had probably cracked it the night before at the track.

I am hoping she gets into it and if not then I will go out and enjoy it and have some friends and nephews that will enjoy it with me.  My son tried to water ski behind the old boat but couldn't keep the skis together then I found out I can tie them together with a special bungee so will do that when we try the next time.  I have two tubes and two kneeboards as well to use besides the two sets of skis.  This is now my hobby instead of Racing.  It's not what some of ya'll run but its enough for me right now.  Maybe later I may jump into the high speed foray with another Chrysler big block powered jet boat but for now this will suit me just fine.  Heck I was very happy with the 105hp Chrysler outboard and the trihull I had before.  It was a little underpowered when pulling a large 4 person tube where as this one shouldn't be at all.

I will probably find a used manifold that will work fine for me.  I usually get lucky that way.  I should have visited some friends of mine in the valley while I was there they probably have one I could score for cheap.

Man, I'm glad my wife is not so tight with the purse strings.  I can pretty much do what ever I want.  She always says, "If you want it, Just buy it or charge it".  I have to keep my self in check.  It's amazing we have zero credit card debt.  If it was up to her we would be covered up with it.  LOL.

I don't believe in making payments on toys , and don't use credit cards for anything . I do use the bank card alot , but it comes out of my account instead of having interest and payments . I try to avoid debt on anything if at all possible , but sometimes it can't be avoided .

How do you run a business without a credit card?  We have one for each of our businesses.  No way I am giving a debit card that draws straight from my checking account to the distributors or using it for any kind of internet purchase.  If those guys over charge or make a mistake your money is tied up until it is resolved.  We use credit cards in our business and pay them off each month.
