Cam Choice

I know this topic has been around a lot but I figured I would fire this one out there anyway.  I am in the process of building a 533 FORD - 80 over with flat tops - Worked over D3VE heads to keep the compression around 10.5 to 1 - Offy Tunnel Ram - twin Holley 650's - headers.

What would a good choice be? My goal is to spin my 18 foot v bottom somewhere in the 55 to 5700 RPM range. Is this feasible with this set up or do I need to rethink my goals?  crazy.gif

What would you suggest? I have not purchased springs, lifters, pushrods so I can whichever route will give me the best performance and hold up the best.

Yes - it's a berk, I have added a rideplate, shoe, split bowl, HTP snoot, top steer and diverter. I am running an A. But I am not against adjusting my impeller choice to match the HP. My thinking is that if I can max it out at 5700 rpms or so the engine should last a few years.
Thanks guys.

I don't know what your heads will flow, but I'd run a solid flat tappet to keep costs down.

either comp 34-343-4 or 34-342-4 depending on intended use.

I've had good luck with both cams, however the 640 lift of the larger cam is better suited for aftermarket or well-ported heads. The 296s is the cam I used to run in the sanger, but it was 440" motor/ worked dove-c heads

the 306s is what We put in George's motor.(521/rpm heads)

JMO, I'm sure you'll get more advice. :smile16:

dove heads will have to be worked pretty good to make hp at 5700rpm with that many cubic inches. I would cam it no more than .640 lift and for around 6000rpm, and lsa of 112.

unported dove heads only flow 276cfm @25in of water or 292cfm @28in of water, how ever you want to look at it. Thats only enough to make around 550 560hp. You will only spin a 530+ ci engine around 5000rpm to get that.

Won't switching to D0VE heads raise my compression? I thought by running some ported D3VE heads I could still flow good and keep my compression lower. My other two jets have the D0VE heads but I am running standard stroke and dished pistons. This is my first attempt at a Stroker so all advice is appreciated. Thank you fellas.

he was stating stock port flow figures. Yes, your comb chambers are larger, and will decrease your compression some.

That is just a little more then I am looking for right now. 10 to 10.5 to 1 is where I would like to run unless that would kill my performance. I am beginning to think I want to many different things out of this build. Maybe I am being unrealistic.
