Borderline Insanity?

Ok, so i have been thinking some more about my toys.... and i want to know if it is possible to pull a parasail behind a jet driven shallow 'V' boat with a small block 350.

I have seen videos of this being done behind a seadoo jet boat. I guess my only concern is, will the parasail create enough drag to pull the ass end up out of the water?

Ive heard rumors of a guy doing this with an RXP-X jet ski also.

I think the main concern will be controling the Boat, the sail dont need speed to fly and the jet dont control well at 10 mph. I am in the process of talkin My Cuz into splittig one with me, if we get it we will prolly use a 14ft Aluminum Boat with a 40 hp Hammer on it. BUT, if you try it, let us know how/if it works.  :smile17:

Don't know about the steering but if you have much wind you will have a BIG problem. I've personally seen 2 jets sunk by a parasail. A good gust  of wind will actually pull the boats tail down and swamp you. You have to make more power than the drag of the wind on the parasail or you just go backwards. I have never seen a boat's back end lifted by one either. I'm no expert on the topic but I've seen it work and I've seen it fail.

"Cloud Hopper" parasails recomends at least a 16 ft boat with 100 hp... and im 17.2' with 200ish hp so i think im in good shape.... ive been watching videos of people pulling them with seadoos and even on land with a snow mobile...

"Cloud hopper" does make it clear that anything over 19mph winds is not a good idea, but my boat inst any fun in high wind anyway so i dont think this will become an issue (we will just ride jet skiis tillt he wind dies back down, and then hop right back in the boat..)

im doing it... im installing a pylon 1st... then buying a parasail... ill let you know how it goes.


as far as it swamping my boat, they make quick disconnects for both ends of the rope for safety in case something goes wrong.

I visualize where the parasail occupant is about 15 feet off the water and you could roost the peeps.  By working on the technique, one could keep them in the roost all day.

I agree ... this doenst sound like fun.... however parasailing above the roost would be awesome... or parasailing with an an airchair rider below.

but getting blasted in the face with roost does not sould like a good time.

I would put some kind of quick disconnect in case of the freak wind. You know how is Texas those T Storms creep up and then blow like hell. Either that or keep a sharp knife ready. I does not take much to create 1000 pounds of lift.

A friend of mine did it at Lake Pleasant and the results were very bad he ended up paying for it for many years. He tried to pull with the jet but couldn't over power the wind and the guy got pulled through the beach and crashed into several people and bounced off a few trucks then the line broke and he was pulled into the desert. Several people on the beach were injured the guy parasailing broke his neck several other bones and wore a halo for a year. Every on of them sued my friend with the boat. He got it from the people on the beach, the guy wanting to para sail and any one else that could get a lawyer. Sad part is he was just hanging at the beach the guy walked up and asked for a tow. He had the para sail and rigging all my friend did was try to be accommodating. So its best to really think about it and plan the wind and the process and don't use a jet.

This is exactly what I was talking about. I've seen a lady drug across the rocks and cut up really really bad and in the process of almost killing her, the guy sunk his boat. The other boat I saw get sunk was from a cliff start. In my honest opinion, not that it's worth much, I would really suggest thinking verrrrrryyyy long and hard about this before you make a decision. It could have life altering consequences for more than just the few involved.  :smile20:  Like I said in my earlier post, Have fun, think slowly and clearly, and most importantly, BE SAFE!!! With as few drag boat guys as there are left, we can't afford to lose any of them or their boats. We should be restoring them, not sinking them! Just my .02

Just use common snse (short supply these days) and it should be fine. Staft with short test runs when lake is NOT packed. Week nite or something.
