To say the least. Pretty trippy that it just sat there all those years. Makes you wonder what else is out there.

I read the book a few years ago.....tragic the end result.

Thanks Cliff.  You made me skip straight to the end.  Saved me an hour of hope.  LOL.

:smile27: Glad I could help.....though I didn't specify exactly what the tradegy was.....

Viewing the entire series of videos is defintely worth your time.

You know those guys had balls like a buffalo, or the brains of a Baboon. Strap your azz in the seat of an airplane that has been rotting for 50 years! And taking off on a frozen lake, not me! I would enjoy working on it though! I saw that on TV awhile back. I felt bad for the mechanic that passed, but it would have killed him to watch it burn after working to death! :smile20:

One of the things that was surprising, was that the tires were even still holding air.. and the instrumentation still seemed to function.

And for things to go down the way they did at the end it seemed almost staged, for such a chickenshit error to destroy everything they had done up to that point. I mean, they had that thing rolling around under its own power & everything. Then for it to crap out on the frozen lake where it will eventually go through the ice & sink? If there ever was a Homer Simpson "doh" moment, that had to be way up there on the list.

I wish I had what they spent on that.  I might be able to buy fuel for half of the summer for my boat. :smile16:
I wouldn't be surprised if that was a cool mill burning up. The thing I would worry about was the loading on the wings over the years from snow. They had no idea what that thing was going to do once air born. Hell it could have been a larger fire ball spread out over a half mile.  :smile20:
