496 Mag upgrade to 496 HO

Anybody have any expierance with this upgrade. I've read online about swapping out the cam and the ECM. Just curious if anybody has actually done it and what the results and cost were.

You can probably get the parts used at one of the offshore forums,
the difference is 50hp so figure on 3-4mph increase.
Honestly you would be better off getting a custom cam ground for your application
and a custom tune for the ecm. Youll probably get 75-100hp (6-8mph) that way
which will make the expense more worth your time.

My opinion is.If you have never done any performance upgrades to a mercruiser, get all the info you can before you start swapping out electronics. There is a lot of variables that go into play gear ratio WOT rpm's etc, etc.Check out this site it is probably what you are looking for. www.boostpower.com :smile15:

yeah go with a roller cam over the flat tappet the HO uses, should free up a few more hp also.
