460 or 7.3

I found my pickup that I want, almost.  It is an '96 F350 4X4 crew cab, but it has a 460 instead of a 7.3.  The motor only has 30,000 miles on it.  The same trucks with the 7.3 with over 200k miles cost twice as much.  I'm mostly going to use it around town, so I don't think I need the diesel anyway.  Anybody got any opinions?

Nothing wrong with that except mileage.

Yep, the mileage will probably suck, but a cool truck! :smile16:

Super chip makes a programer for that year model, even with the gas motor you can improve your gas mileage.  I hade one on my diesel and a fellow pilot tried one on his 460.

With it being 4x4 and a 460 you need to see what gears are in it. If they are 4:11, mileage will suffer! :smile30:

i believe in the 4 x 4 in that year model the gears are higher than the 2 wheel counter part,  but i can not remember what they were

:smile16: That = crappy mileage! But I still would get the truck if you liked it and mileage wasn't a huge factor. Plus the price of gas versus diesel muddies up the water even more. :smile16:

I would just make sure it has an automatic tranny . Those year models didn't have a good manual transmission .

Thats a tough truck.  Final call comes down to if you can tolerate the fuel economy.  The early 7.3's werent the best in economy, but they were pretty dependable.  If your not driving it much, and the price is right....... id do it!
