460 block oil pressure guage

I have a technical question. The gauges in my Crusader have been replaced recently (not by me) with new Marine type gauges. The oil pressure reading on the gauge is pegged past 80PSI when I start the motor and stays that way. When the engine is off and I turn the key from off to on, the needle on the gauge wiggles a little and then stays at zero until I crank the motor. I changed out the oil pressure sending unit with one from Napa auto parts and the gauge still reads the oil pressure is past 80psi when the moror is running. There's no oil blow by on the engine or on the breather so I don't think I have actual oil pressure issues. I put an auto sender on the motor and I've been told that the ohm value is different for a marine oil pressure gauge than a marine oil pressure gauge.

Any suggestions on where I can get an oil sender for my 460 that is compatible with a marine oil pressure gauge?

Thanks!

I was asking about the same deal just recently (Sorta, got new gauges & need to get sending units). Most everybody that replied suggested getting the sending unit from the manufacturer of the gauge, or at least from someone who sells that kind of gauge: Autometer = Autometer, Faria = Faria, Beede = Beede, etc... Getting them from an auto parts store would be kind of hit & miss...

What kind of gauges are they?

Here is the thread where my questions were answered... Gauges/Sending Units

I run 2 sets of gages. The dash gages are electrical. Then I have a second set on the motor that are mechanical. Billy will tell you he seen how I had them set up. There was some difference but not much. I have just oil pressure and water temp on the mechanical.

Just went thru this on My brothers Tahiti, Marine gauge needs marine sending unit the ohms are different, anything at the auto parts most liokeley will not work, I got one from west marine....worked perfect it was 29 bucks, I can get you the part number if you need me too

I agree with all the above.  That gauge is more than likely 90 - 230 ohms.  OEM auto gauges are a different scale.  I didn't think about it or I would have brought that adapter to Jame's so we could try my sender to see if it fixes the issue before you buy.  $29 at West Marine is not a bad price.  I paid $35 for mine from Hardin.

Thanks Outlaw. If you could send the part number, that sure would help with the research. The type gauges that are on the boat are Sierra International gauges. I think the prior owner bought them from Amazon.com as when I do a Google search of the part number, Amazon are the only pages that pop up.

Ya, I didn't think about it Saturday either or else i would have borrowed James sender as he has the same block as I do.
