Why Pontiac is better

Pontiac was GM's original performance division long before the days of corporate engine packages.  There are several things that make the Pontiac V8 a great performance platform.  With few exceptions, Pontiac V8's came with screw in studs, guide plates, hardened push rods, windage tray and a 6 qt oil pan straight from the factory.  Pontiac V8's also utilize a valley pan to keep hot oil off the bottom of the intake.  Were not talking about just on their top engine packages.  This was all Pontiac V8's.  These are all things that have to be done to other platforms in the search reliability with increased horsepower.

I know the 350 in my '69 Firebird was pretty stout. It was stock except for the carb and distributor. With 4:10s, posi, and a 4spd..it was fun to drive to say the least.
