What's up, fellas?

I'm new to the jet boat scene. Recently pick up a '73 16' Tahiti. The boat had a 455 olds in it. But we are going a different route than the 455 olds. I'm sure some will be like what the hell are you thinking. We'll start with my background on the engines I'm fluent in.

IT all start back in '01. I purchase this car I knew nothing about. The car was an Eclipse GS-T (Turbo FWD) I have since worked my way up building the car and after making around 350whp (give or take) I got tired a spinning my tires and the torque steer got pretty scary. So, I started looking for and AWD car. I found a 92 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. In the few year of owning the Talon I have build it from around 350WHP to over 600 at all four wheels. This car has started getting scary as well. I can roll into it at around 50MPH in second gear and light up all four wheels. A couple times when it was cold I was able to do it around 90MPH. Anyway, I've done all the work on the car myself, excluding the tuning. And am very happy with my work. I'[m taking the car down to Goliad, TX the end of October to run the Famous Texas Mile. I'm shoot for 189.9MPH out of the car as any fast I'll need all kinds of safety equipment that I can't afford at the moment.

Anyway, my parents have a 95 Talon that they are working on (Well, I'm doing the work but you know what I mean) rebuild for a daily driver for my Mom. In the process of the machine shop screwing him over we ended up with another 4g63 long block. I for the longest have wanted to stick one of the motors in a jet boat as I know they can make the power and they gotta weigh a lot less than these big blocks.

On to the Boat, we found a 73 Tahiti and picked it up pretty cheap. The boat has a Berkeley 12JC. Started work on the boat and found the floor had started rotting out. Who ever owned the boat before us had build an aluminium frame to over lay the stock floor and had plywood on top of that. No big deal. WE yanked that out and replaced the floor. They had also joined the top and bottom halves together. We still have some "body work" to do on the boat. Not sure on the color the boat will be. I want something simple.

As for the motor, we've got a 4g63 6-bolt that we will build up. We are pretty much planning on building it just like the motor in my Talon. Looking at doing either Scat or Eagle Rods, and am undecided on the pistons as of yet. We'll stick some duel valve springs in the head and an aftermarket intake manifold as well as exhaust manifold. Looking at going with a t3 HX40 (A lot of the cummins turbo diesel guys use these, as well of the DSM guys with good results). We'll be running a boat load of fuel. Looking at doing either two Bosch 044 fuel pumps or a single Aeromotive A1000's and somewhere north of 1600cc (150lb) injectors. We will need all the fuel we can get since we will be looking at running the poormans race fuel, E85. Which has done wonders for street cars and race cars a like.We will be running somewhere around 35 lbs of boost and looking to flow somewhere around 60-65 lbs a minutes. The HX40 will flow a max of 69lbs/min. I'll be running a Air-Water intercooler, since water is abundant on the water. I'm looking at making somewhere around 700 horse power at the crank. I don't think it'll be to hard as last time my car was on the dyno is did 582 at all four wheels on a Mustang dyno (Mustang Dynos tend to read low) at that. So, I figure that'll put me somewhere around 650-700 at the crank on the Talon. I'll be happy if I can 70+MPH outta the boat.

There are still a lot of things I'll have to figure out and I am already learning a lot about the boats them selves. I've been running Sea-Doo's for somewhere around 15+ years and have always tinkered with those things to make them faster. So I've got plenty of water knowledge, just none on Jet Boats. I've been meaning to get some picture of the boat. I'll see about getting some.

I'm more of a lurker, I read more than I post. And I research before I post a question. If anyone has any tips or pointers, feel free to add them in. I also know a bit about web forums, I've owned and operated my own web forum (www.dallasdsm.org) for the last 5 years or so. Oh yeah, my name's Casey, by the way. I look forward to being a part of the community.

Thanks for the warm Welcome, Guys. I look forward to getting the boat running and surprising a few guys with it.

Duane, Yes I'm from the Dallas area, Wylie actually. I doubt I'll be able to make it to plowmans. I saw the thread earlier. Right now all my free time away from family is going to the boat, I'd like to have it running come summer time. That and I still gotta find time to piddle with the race car. Thanks for the invite, though. :D

Tintman, I guess it is thinking outside the box for you guys. But it's what I know. :D

CoolGlastron, I have no idea. I don't know the weigh of either. I would guess the short block (4G63 4 cylinder) weighs around 125-175 lbs. Then it's got a aluminum head that weighs around 40lbs. I would assume the whole long block to be somewhere around 300lbs max. The add on the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and turbo. Everything on the long block I would guess around 400lbs.
