Thinking out loud

I never want to see another stupid super bee crysler, I wish I never knew what it was. Ad insult to injury the dude brings home another project.

I have already been thinking about a concept this morning over coffe while reading some THB posts on FB. Two local jet boat fellers have purchased in the last year jetboats minus engine. They got the hull and some rigging and then had to go find and build a motor. Both of the guys were successful in getting engines assembled and in the boats. This is a great example of the dedication this hobby/sport takes. Can I borrow a ? you bet. can you help me with? you bet. These guys are real and no keyboard commandos.  A few years back when I first wanted to buy a jet boat a jet boat friend from the lake advised me to buy a hull and then build a motor for it. I know my abilities and knew I could do the research and scrounge and put one together.  I didn't want a huge project, I wanted to go to the lake and motorboat.  After having a jet and learning a lot I would feel comfortable now buying a boat minus engine.  As I get older I know I don't have time to do a full resto or take the cap off a boat. It is cheaper to buy a working jetboat than rescue one from the field. I feel this is a boaters law that is often ignored by rookies. They learn this law by trying. I am victim as well.

Well said Mr. Andy!

I've always said "where's there's a will, there's a way". You nailed it that people are more than willing to help you as long as you're willing to help yourself. I'm living testament to that as I've never met a more giving and willing to help group of people in my life. I too and just as willing to help someone out as long as they themselves are willing to help themselves.

I for one am guilty of never finishing my boat projects, Oh they may be running up and down the lake and they look finished to the unknowing, but I am constantly checking out other boats for ideas to make mine better or just more mine!  The Liberator. is sitting on a dolly right now, with a new Ford in it, ready to run, yet the trailer is in the shop being repainted.  I'm fixing to pull a brand new engine out of my boat (less than 10 hours on it) and put a Blown Chevy in it.  The hull will be flipped for a bottom job and pump rebuild.  All these items will be finished, when?  I'd like to say the project will be completed by the start of next summer, but I know better than to try to set a firm date.  First there is the money, (will parts sell, will overtime be available, will the air conditioner not break?).  Second, the subcontractors I have to use, because I'm not as talented in their selected fields as they are.  My experience with these people is they are readily available to take your money and promise you a date, but once they have your stuff torn apart they disappear.  Third, Life happens, Horses kick the side of the barn out, Horses founder, water system needs serviced, trash needs to be taken to the dump, (yea I live on a farm and have different distractions than the city dwellers, but James, Cliff, and Patch all have there life moments).  My point in all this rambling is there are others that will finish their projects before I finish mine, and that's all well and good.  But my project will hopefully never be finished, I will constantly be building, tearing down, and rebuilding, I will start other projects, I will be lured with other distractions. Yes I do agree that the Super Bee Boat build sucks, but so do Fords, Jaccuzzi's and Patch (HaHa).  But it is HIS project and his dream and I say go for it. If you ever meet Chrysler Jet, you would realize he is an outstanding individual, involved in many outside functions (family, boy scouts, etc.).  We all share one common disease, his symptoms are just of a different nature.

I am having a "Chris" moment over here.  Every time I turn around something else breaks or interferes with my progress on my projects.  Besides Chris is busy fixing the Obamacare website! :smile30:

Thanks for trying to push me and Jim is right I have just too much going on.  I know everyone wants me to get off the computer and get to work on something but the onyl time I am on the computer is when I am at work which is 40 miles from the boat and it helps pass the time at work.  I sit in an office and with the new job still not involved enough that I have too much to do.  I am constantly waiting on people and in between those times I get online and goof around.
My boats are not my last in line of things to get done but they are not the first either.  Transportation for work is primary and right now I am using the wife's car because it is better on gas than the Durango adn she is using the Durango since she only has to go 7 miles to work versus my 40 miles in traffic.  The motor blew in the bike and I haven't had time to rebuild it.  I picked up another project bike that should have been easy but that motor has something locking it up at top dead center on the 2/3 cylinders and I haven't figured out what yet and not wanting to take the head off cause of pain in the ass it will be and cost of the head gasket since its not a common bike.
Workin 80-90 hours a week between 2 jobs and then my volunteer work with the School, Middle School Bowling Club.  I was supposed to work Friday but had to switch shifts so I could go to the High School football game and watch my daughter in the seventh grade band perform with the High School band at the game.  My wife also volunteered us to chaperone for the band as well for the game.

I tend to put everyone else ahead of me.  I have always offered to help anyone else out and it would be the same there if you needed something and I could assist I would be there above my wants.

Just because I can't get my personal projects done doesn't mean I don't know what I am doing.  I have been turning wrenches since I was 7.  It is in my blood and its a part of me.  There came a point where my dad started coming to me for advice on his vehicles and not the other way around.  Am I a backyard mechanic absolutely.  Do I have too many projects absolutely.  I wish I had more time and more money but that just isn't the case.  I won't ever be able to afford to buy any of these boats you all are buying.

I don't have a lot of cash flow and someone once said I probably can't afford this hobby and they are probably right.  But I won't ever give up on my dreams.  I didn't when I had my barracuda and everyone said that was a POS and would never run but it did.  I didn't have the money back then either but I built a solid motor over time.  The 440 for the Carlson will be coming together soon enough.  It is being done inexpensively like the motor for the ChryslerJet.  Mainly because I am taking my time to source out the parts, using second hand parts, or parts I already had on hand for other motors.  I got a good deal on some Keith Black Pistons for the 440 in the Carlson which will bump the compression up to 10-1.  I just have to have the motor bored out 30 over now.  i will put new rings and bearings in it.  I am hoping I can use the cam and heads off my 383.  I might get some used double springs from Galen that would work better than the springs I have.

I need to get the 383 and the 440 on Engine stands and make some room but at the same time I may have some other changes coming like we may be moving.  If it all works out we may be getting our own place.  It will have room for the boats and a work shop where the boats cam be stored inside.  The places we are looking at are near Canyon Lake.  One of them only 3 miles from Crane's Mill Park Boat ramp and Crane's Mill Marina.  It is in the price range we can afford and big enough for us and has the workshop which is nice.  It's like a half workshop and half open carport which they used to store their RV.  It's plenty of Room to put the boats in covered areas where I can work on them rain or shine and not have to worry about the neighbors.  The neighbor that's next to the shop has a shop on the same property line backed up to this shop.  I am hoping we get it but it would mean a slight delay on all the projects while we get everything moved.  Hopefully once it happens we will be able to move on the projects a bit more.  The poor ChryslerJet has been sitting in the weather since the temporary shelter got torn up in a wind storm.  I have a new metal carport to put over it just haven't had the time and when I do it's been raining lately and welding and cutting in the rain is not something I want to be doing.

I am not looking for anyone's pity just this is my life.  I will get my projects done come hell or high water.  Whether anyone on here likes the projects I am building doesn't matter to me cause I like them.  I will get them done on my timeline.  I know everyone else has things going on in their life and still gets the boats done, I am glad for each and every one of you that is able to do it.  I wish I could spend more time with everyone but right now I have my priorities that need to be taken care of in my life and the boats although not the bottom of the list are not the priority.

Oh and Jim I wouldn't help that A-hole succeed even if he paid me $1 million.  I told people 8 years ago he was a fraud and shouldn't be president and no one believed me.
