Steering

My steering sucks ever since I bought my boat last summer, It is near impossible to turn without using both hands.  Before replacing the cable I disconnected it tonight and the pump moves freely. The wheel is alittle easier but not much. My question is my cable runs to the back of the boat and then does a s-turn to get connected to the pump.  Im guessing this is normal and shouldn't be the reason it is tight? The cable I have is a Morse 300622 which I read is discontinued.  Anyone have a similiar problem? Not wanting to spend the $200 or whatever it is if it won't fix the problem. Thanks.

by a rack system from telflex about 150 bucks this will cure what ales you.
Measure from the center line of the helm to the side of the boat then down the side of your boat to the transome then to the centerline of your pump and add 3 feet. This will give you your cable length to order. The cables and boxes to take a crap and need replacement every so often.

headers turned out great cory!, i talked to your neighbor the other day and he asked me what we  were doing and i told him we were installing a set of headers and he asked me will that make it quieter? and i told him hell yes :smile28: :smile28: :smile28: :smile28:

haha, what would be the point of putting new headers on if it was quieter?!

Hey sturat, I called teleflex tech support today and they told me to get the ss137 which is a rotary system.... does this seem right? Then they said if it controls backwards I have to buy a helm convert and some quick disconnect thing.

I changed from a rotary to a rack and love it. Boat turns with one finger no mess no fuss look at Rex Marines web site under steeering and you will find them.

same with me when I bought my boat.  Got a whole new Teleflex rack and cable setup.  This place was the cheapest I found.
