I know there are several parks on Lake Somerville. Two state parks that I know of & I believe maybe 7 others.

Only ones we have ever stayed at was Yegua & Rocky Creek. Anybody here ever stayed at any of the other ones? Just curious about bein on different parts of the lake without necessarily having to get to them only by boat.

The two state parks are Nails Creek Park & Birch Creek Park, if I'm not mistaken. The one close to the dam is called Overlook Park.

Curious about any of 'em really, if anybody has any comments on them. Nice campgrounds, decent ramp. Cove to hang out, anchor, swim, etc...

Haven't brought up a map yet, so I wouldn't know where any of 'em were. Also didn't know if certain parts of the lake may be any better than others.

we camped at welch last year,  they are up grading their facilities,  the newest on is way over at the entrance,  i kinda like camping up on the plateau,  kinda isolated from everyone else, made for a good group camping spot  :smile30:

Rocky Creek is ok, especially if you get a shady spot. I been noticing the cove is getting more & more weedy it seems... Never really hung out in that little cove right by the ramp though.

We've only stayed at Yegua once, but it was pretty damn nice over there. 3 lane boat ramp, pretty fair amount of parking by the ramp too, in case you didn't take the truck back to the campsite. They had a nice beach area right around the point from the boat ramp at one time, last I mentioned it to Bert he said it was gone though..

Is Lake Somerville fairly obstruction free, or do you NEED a jet boat for there?

Far as I know its pretty obstruction free. There are all kinds of boats out there. A friend of mine, John has a 32' -34' Scarab he takes out there pretty often.

Only obstruction I know about for sure is over by Welch Park, a rock bar out off the point a little ways, but it is marked by buoys. A guy still managed to run over it at Welchfest couple years ago & knocked the intake out of his boat. Thankfully it was shallow in that area, cuz he didn't quite make it to shore before puttin it on the bottom. We did get it out for him though. Theres pics of it in one of the Welchfest galleries.

that cove is awesome....  now the cat is out of the bag,  and i wont have spot there  :smile30:

The one right by the 2 lane ramp, has the little floating dock? Kinda small, didn't look like anything special. The other one, back around the corner, closer to some of the campsites is pretty good, but gettin a lot of weeds & stuff growin up.

Mayeb we are  talkin about 2 different ones? Does Rocky Creek have more than one boat ramp?

yes the one with the floating dock,  and Rocky has two ramps,  well this is my opinion,  but in rocky creek,  this is the best cove....  but yall can find a different one so it doesn't get crowded.....  clap.gif  jump.gif

Its pretty nice out there. Way back in the cove at Welch park, I didn't realize you could touch bottom back in there, where we were anyway. Right at the end of the day last year we ended up back there & was pretty cool that you could walk around, water was around chest deep I guess.

Ya, he just wasn't payin attention. Its marked with buoys & the lake was down so even the rocks were exposed. He had a pretty good attitude about it though.
