Some of you have seen some of this but I thought I would start a post of updating my Schiada so if you have seen this ship down to the bottom. Pulled the engine and had EO go through it new rings bearings and valve job. While engine was out I wanted to clean and fresh up the install. Sanded floors and flowcoted the black, then sanded starting with 600 then 800, 1000,2000, and then 3000. After the black floor I buffed and polished the parka floor. Then polished and buffed. While at it I polished all aluminum parts including the tanks. Today I set the engine back in here are pictures up through today. Thanks for looking. JJ

Texas jet it makes 15 psi. Run avegas adding the intercoler helped a bunch went from 5800 to over 6800 rpm.
Patchman come any time you got a ride.
Thanks for the encouragement and the kind words makes all the hours work better.

Final compression around 15 to 1 ? Avgas is 100 octane?? Are you 100% sure 100 octane is enough???

Not 15 to 1 but 15 pounds of boost, competition is around 8.5 to 1 not new engine just freshed up. Ran it with out the intercooler with no problems on avegas.

Looking great JJ. It is a lot of work but it will definitely be a sharp looking boat when it is done. Hell....it was nice before you started the updating on it though!!

As an example: My blower motor has a static compression on 8.3 to 1. With 12 lbs of boost the final compression is about 15 to 1. That's what I was asking. What's your final compression? Will avgas support your final compression?

With Avgas being a true 100LL Octane, I think it wold be fine. Especially for some river cruising.  :smile17:

Texasjet as I am not the best engine guy, when I first got the Schiada this is the engine that was in it.  It did not perform as well as I thought it should after checking it out I found several small things that helped, in doing this I checked to see how much boost it was making and found that it made 15 psi of boost. That was higher than I expected and although I was not seeing any problems I decided to add a intercooler to lower the intake temperature. The engine developed a noise that I and others could not figure out what it was so I pulled the engine. EO went through the engine and fixed the problem he found now signs of and detonation. So to answers your question no I see no problem with running avegas. I will say that the engine runs around 140 to 160 degrees and with the intercooler I am very happy with the setup.

What size gears is that boat running ?

Also does it have a 2 or 3 blade ?

It had 25 in the v drive changed to 32. Have run 2 and 3 blade have new 3 blade going to try next. Want to keep rpm under 7000, so hopping the 32 keep the rpm down. Should be in the water next week. Come up and play with us.

I could see the benefit to keeping it under 7K.  Hard to believe we spin big blocks that high anymore.  crazy.gif
