New to the board IN New Braunfels

Just found this board.  I am in the middle of a complete tear down and rebuild of a 1974 Chrysler Conqueror SIII 340 Jet boat.  It originally came with a 340 but when I got it the 340 was missing.  I have a 360 that's going back in it.  The Jet is an original Chrysler designed Jet that was used from 74-78 or 79 as far as I can tell.  Its a very simplistic and unique design.

Here are a few shots of the boat when I brought her home.  If you want to see pics of the restoration let me know and I will post them up as well.  They are all available on the photo bucket link below.

Make sure to check out all the sub albums as I broke everything up into the order or sections that were being worked on

The project build thread is here

There are some stories to tell about this thing too including a great one just about getting it home.

By the way paid $250 for the entire package Boat and trailer.

Can't wait to get her done and back on the water for the first time in over 25 years. Yeah last time it was registered was in 1985.  I have had it in my possession for about a year now.

Thanks for visiting
Chris

Welcome to THB! Definitely interested in hearing more about your boat. I've only seen pics of the Chrysler jetboats on the web, cool to have one in our neck of the woods now. By all means, post away, pics are always a plus.  jump.gif

Those silver face Faria gauges in your wishlist album, do you know what model they are? I got a full set of the Faria Chesapeake SS gauges last year, really happy with 'em. Got them online somewhere, lot cheaper than most places were selling them. I'll post the website soon as I remember where I got 'em from, lol...

I would appreciate that.  I really like that stainless, brushed aluminum look for these gauges the stock ones were all black.  I am planning on going back with a black dash so those would stand out nice.  Everything has been a cost fight with the wife though since I paid $250 for it she figures I should spend more money to fix it than I paid for it.  Especially on a set of Gauges that are $229.  Maybe for Christmas this year if I have been good enough.  After all she did get me some new Chrome Gel grips for the chopper for Christmas this year.  So far including the cost of the boat and materials (epoxy, 2 part foam, new winch strap, all new Vinyl, motor with all the accessories) I have spent a little over $1100 on it.  Planning to keep it under $2k and that's having to buy another motor and possibly starter since the one I got is reverse rotation and not standard rotation.  At least all the other accessories like the carb, spark arrestor, brackets and pulleys will work.  Planning on getting a Newer truck Magnum 360 (5.9L) motor to put in it figure they make a little better power and have a roller valvetrain in them stock.  I had thought about putting my built 383 big block in there but that's a lot of weight extra and then I would have to change over manifolds, bellhousing and flywheel.  I think finding the bellhousing would be impossible.

Yeah I have been to both of those sites.  There is somewhere a video or picture of this boat doing figure 8's on the water that was shot from the testing facility in Plano.  I would love to get my hands on that.  The lakes around here aren't big enough to do that.  Maybe Canyon Lake is but I usually boat in Lake Dunlop here in New Braunfels since its in my backyard.

There are some other fellas in your area... They haven't been on in awhile, but they are around, Keith/77Spectra, Nick/Sleek460, & Richard/Esabataj are 3 right off the top of my head. There are more I'm sure.

Far as the gauges are concerned, pretty sure they came from here: http://www.boatersland.com/faria.html That is the site I sent to my wife when she asked where to get them from, so I would assume thats where they came from. Got the 6 gauge set for 159.00. I haven't seen the silver face gauges anywhere yet, doesn't mean they are not out there. Also could try here: http://www.oldboatgauges.com/

Oh yeah, don't keep track of what you spend. When its over (and its never over) you may not wanna know, lol!

Here is a shot of the interior of the Jet itself.
JetInside.jpg

Oh I have a question on this there is depression in the fiberglass right at the edge of the jet tunnel.  I have heard that jets create a low pressure spot under speed at that spot and so I wonder if that's a design that the Chrysler engineers did or is it a sag in the fiberglass.  I will see if I can get better pictures of the sag.
