just a thought for hydrofest

you know one year we had an event at lake texanna and we really enjoyed it, the place where we had it at is a private campground, and i was thinking why not have it there seeing how coleto will never be again, just thought i would throw it out there, i know devilman used to hang out there alot, he probably knows more about the lake.

There was a thread here a week or so ago about it and I think someone mentioned that place . Someone else suggested Gibbons Creek , and I think some other place as well  .

I say that if you are going to have an event that it should be held somewhere that people are allowed to hang out on the beach . The San Jac would be a better choice than Gibbons .

Wonder what they will be talking about. Sometimes flying under the radar is the way to go. :cheesy:

I see they have a map of that park now on Brackenridge's website. They are calling that side Texana Park I guess. The "beach" spot I mentioned was around the area of sites 121-129 give or take. Its been a long time since we were there on that side though, so no telling what its like now. Looking forward to going over there.

Any chance of a two day event ? Like Saturday AND Sunday ?  think.gif

I don't see why not. Sunday is usually the day people split to head home, but if the park is not too strict on checkout time, there would be no real rush to leave I wouldn't think? I'm sure the folks that don't have to travel too far would hang out. And if you had to leave the park, there is always the river, muhahahah..

soooo we went & rode through the former state park Saturday. That place is bigger than I remembered. It does have its pluses, although the layout probably won't be considered optimum by some folks, spectators mainly.

There is a 2 lane boat ramp with a pier between the lanes, with quite a bit of parking at the boat ramp. As much as Colet has, maybe more. They have a pretty damn big day use area... nice bathrooms there close, lots of picnic tables with bbq grills pretty close to each table and super shady. Boat ramp is on the same side of the cove as the day use area. The "beach" spot I mentioned in an earlier post is on the camping side, across the cove from the day use area. This brings me to why we thought it may not be optimum from a spectator standpoint. That whole cove is a no wake zone. So no matter if people end up hanging out on the day use side of the cove or the campground side of the cove, when people go out to run around & make passes and what-not, they will be out of sight of anybody hangin out on shore. So while it would be fine for hangin & socializin, you won't have any views of the action, so to speak.

On the opposite side of the point, where the cove opens up out to the lake there are a few campsites that face the actual lake & are close to the water, with the one on the end having pretty fair amount of space around it. People gathering on that side would then be able to see the boats out screwing around on the water. The key may be trying to get all those sites on the point there so that whole area, or the majority of it, will be people there for this get-together.

Working on resizing the pix & will get them posted shortly.

No problem Randall, most welcome.

Ok, here's a few pics.. looking back at them now I realize I didn't get any really showing the day use area, sorry.

First one is the at the ramp, looking across to the grassy shoreline/beach along the campground side of the cove.

Second one is looking at about the same area of shoreline while crossing a bridge going over into the camping area.

The next three are from a fishing pier on the campground side of the cove. In the pic looking across to the ramp & parking lot, the day use area would be over to to the right side of the ramp. Next two are looking to the right into the cove at the shoreline, and one looking to the left where the cove opens up out into the lake....

These next ones are from the area at the end of the campsite on the side facing the lake. First three looking left out towards the body of the lake & the next three looking to the right show the 111 bridge. This area is where the cove opens up out into the lake.

If there is anything else from there you wanna know about or see, lemme know & I'll do my best to answer ya.

what is that sticking out of the water on the other side of the dock??

Remember those lily pad looking things floating around some places? It was some of those, but appeared dead.

That is another thing, there is some grass/weeds/hydrilla in the water is some areas along the shoreline. It doesn't appear too bad, not bad as Coleto anyway. Probably will want to push off or paddle out a little from shore before starting up. Woulda walked around and checked out the water, but wasn't exactly dressed for it, lol...
