Well yeah & what about the guy that stole the info in the first place & passed it along to him.  Bragging about how easy it was...

If you're granted a security clearance and have a need to know then yes, the information is easy for him to get. The issue here is trust. If you are trust worthy, then you're granted a clearance. Apparently this guy was deemed trustworthy and at one time the PVT was probably trustworthy. But I'm sure that he made an emotional decision to commit espionage because one of his leaders pissed him off. So, he's going to pay the price for the rest of his life based on an emotional short term decision.

Giving a Secret clearance to a low ranking guy is not unusual and needed to perform certain functions in the military.

I get what you're sayin. Not sure what security clearances he had, but this guy purposely hacked & stole info. His immaturity hopefully will cost him dearly. He's no better than the WikiLeaks guy that published it in my opinion.

The Private is sitting in Leavenworth Kansas right now and will do so for many years to come. As for the Wikileaks guy? Well there's really nothing we can do to him except make his life miserable for the rest of his life. He didn't commit a crime, the Private did. There's a Supreme court ruling from back in the 70's I think that states if the press publishes something that was given to them, then their 1st Amendment rights kick in. If the Wikileaks guy actually stole the data and then published it, then he committed a crime. However in this instance he didn't do anything wrong, according tot he courts.

IMO, I think Julian Assage should be castrated and made to live in a cardboard box in the slums of India.... but that's probably not gonna happen.
