Jet drive vs. V-drive

I've owned two jets and one vdrive.  Jets hold the advantage in shallow water and being slower.  lol

Driving the vdrive in unknown water makes me nervous.  A vdrive can hurt you quick!

Jetboat: will not cruise below 3000....and then only about 10 mph.
V-drive: will cruise @ 1900 at about 15-20mph (varies)
Jet: 20+ gallons in a fun day.
V-drive: about 10-12
Jet: low maintenance
V-drive: tighten everything all the time or safety wire (my choice)
Jet: grease bearing
V-drive: Awesome cool noises and "trailer appeal" as d-man would say.. :cheesy:
V-drive: can run on trailer without damaging drive
Jet: 1200 dollar ratchet to do the same
Jet boat: Rip your frickin' head off with acceleration from standing start
V-drive: Rip it off from 70+
Jet boat: shallow water ok
V-drive: damage 1000+ in parts, possibly sinking the boat.
Jet boat: no holes in the bottom
V-drive:strut, rudder, cav plate linkage, all below water line.

More coming. JMO> :smile17:

V-drive: (Mine anyway) will not make it through the no-wake zone without a wake.... crazy.gif
Jet: no problem, be there in 38+ turns of the wheel, and 10 minutes @ idle. jump.gif

come on somebody!!! Wh :smile26:

Vdrive con:  It takes a PHD in Mad Scientology to get one set up perfectly.  No one prop is the same and one boat from the same mold may not perform as another....

Engine placement, vdrive placement, strut angle, gear ratio, engine power etc. all factor in the equation.

Jet Boat don't need a gear box to move.
Jet Boat don't need but 6 inches of water.
Jet Boat don't tear anything off the bottom when you beach it.
Jet Boat don't go as fast as a V-drive.
Jet Boat don't cut off arms or legs when you get run over by one.
Jet Boat don't make the cool sounds heard from a V-drive.
Jet Boat don't much wake unless you are trying to do so.

I LIKE JET BOATS A LOT......................... :smile17:

V-drive: cruising takes a shitload of left pedal action.....get's old fast
Jet: still have to run 3500 to go 30mph.....
V-drive: scare the hell outta you just wondering if you have it set up right
jet: scare the hell outta you wondering if you have enough fuel not to have to ask an outboard to pull you back

:smile16:

V-drive: knowing you have one of the fastest boats on the lake
Jet: knowing you can afford to play, even with the fuel costs
V-drive: own one and your jet boat seems boring now
Now ya'll know why I hav'nt finished my boat, besides funds. Just won't do what I want to do. If I had a blown 500+ motor in a TX 19, it'd be different, after having a single 750 fed 470 inch N/A V-drive that would smack 100+....It's hard to get the old jet goin' crazy.gif

V drive... When going down the highway the average Joe thinks that big Chevy mounted backwards is yet another Ford powered race boat. LOL

Jet Drive.. just plain cool..

My nephew asked me a few months back "You have a jet boat??" with a lot of enthusiasm. Same boat with a V-drive would have begged the question "What's a V-drive?".. LOL
